Identifying SAM and ship

Post by Norm49 »

Hi,

I was playing the A new world scenario and I was trying to recon the enemy fleet. This end poorly for my pilot so now I am trying to come up with a plan on how to identify SAM defence and/or ship composition of a fleet with less risk to my aircraft. In that scenario you don't exactly know what your up against so it is harder to make deduction like normal recon for example: (detecting a Ericsson sea giraffe radar emission near Canadian cost is probably a Halifax class frigate)

The ways I was doing this was fly as low as possible and tun around as soon as a ship was identify and repeat. Result were descent, well until a SAM get fire with our me detecting it then it all when to hell. What would you consider the less risky solution?

1. What i did but try to do it with recon pod.
2. What i did but with the best ECM/DCM possible.

What about trying to send DCM pod on the most manoeuvrable aircraft to doge try doging missile with ELIENT far behind to try to identify the radar and the make a educated guest on the unit/ capability I'm facing. Dose having ECCM behind my recon aircraft would help if my aircraft is this close to the enemy?

For stealth aircraft I don't have any for this scenario but if I did would it be a good choose and how would you use them for this?

I usually go with the mentality of using older/obsolete aircraft for those situation to keep the newer/more capable one safe. This may to be the best ways to go.

There is probably no simple answer but I hope to get some hints to make better decision on what I should use for those kinda mission.

Thanks
