CTD... can you help me?

Premise, I use win 10 64bit + dxwnd.

I'm playing a self-generated campaign, and every time I access the unit repair or upgrade screen at the end of battle... After a few clicks, the game crashes and doesn't work anymore. What can I do to fix this annoying problem?

Off the top of my head, I recall that there "could" be issues in a self generated campaign if you used any Nations other than the big six (UK/USA/Sov/Ger/Italy/Jpn). I can't remember what the "issues" were and I might have remembered this all wrong.

The only other thought I had was ..... have you been trying to use the "Y" key?
It doesn't work, we tried too fix it but no luck. I need to fast-talk another programmer LOL.

Another thought.
For the longest time (pretty well since the artillery bug became a thing) the gamer - between campaign nodes - would be limited to change/update only one unit at a time. After the change you had to get out of that screen, then return to make further changes. I agree, kinda frustrating. This was not the original behavior of the game and I believe another byproduct of that old code trying to keep up with more powerful computing.

After we re-did the mech.exe I did try the "Y" key again for a laugh, and it worked! Woo Hoo!
Then it didn't. Some half-assed testing showed it was hit and miss, and that was about the end of it.

I update the vehicles etc one by one and then return each time to the fix/change screen and sometimes it works whereas if I do it from the screen where you have the whole list on the right, the game systematically does ctd.
I did my campaign with the Germans but adding Italian, Romanian and Hungarian troops... I fight on the eastern front
