Question on Turkey playthrough

Post by alexmike1 »

Started a single player game (v 1.25.03) as Turkey and in Dec 1806. Have created Ottoman Empire with all components except Morocco. Austria then declared war on me whilst already fighting France (?). After I took some of their eastern provinces they surrendered unconditionally to me in Nov 1806. At the end of the same turn I get a message to say that Austria has conquered Algeria and Tunisia. No Austrian troops or ships anywhere near and I had a corps in each capital. Austria in fiasco zone, I'm in dominant. Am I missing something, or is it a bug? Cheers.

Definitely a bug. Have you got a save for the turn just prior to surrender? If not, send me the latest turn and I can review the game log. I'll look at this next week and roll a fix into v1.26.01 Beta. Thanks!

These are the land phase just before control of the minors changed.

Just to derail my own thread, I wanted to say thanks for all that you're doing with this game. I bought it several years ago and set it aside as unplayable, but have recently picked it up again thanks to your work.

I was lucky enough to play the first few years of a 6 player game of the board game back in the early 90's. I still have great memories of the game - even though I was Prussia and got stomped by a Franco-Russian doom alliance!

If you still have the post-surrender turn, I could maybe use that too. But since you're not AI Turkey the surrender resolution should be the same. I have a few ideas what may be wrong and where to start looking in the code.

I'm glad you and others are enjoying the game again. As I read posts here and respond to bug reports, it would be helpful for others to speak up. Your comment about AI Austria at war with France and DOWing Turkey got my attention so I'll make an adjustment there. That's useful feedback. Thanks!

1806, Nov Austria Loses -8 PP
1806, Nov Turkey Gains +5 PP
1806, Nov Austria Pays 2/3 Of Next Two Quarter's Income To Turkey
1806, Nov Austria SURRENDERS UNCONDITIONALLY To Turkey
I am reviewing your game save and not seeing the surrender issue that you reported? Algeria and Tunisia are still controlled by Turkey. Game log does not report Austria conquering them. I assume you restarted your game and got different results?

I will still investigate this as I have some thoughts about what may have caused what you saw. But having a good game save where I can reproduce the problem and later verify a fix is most helpful.

If you continue the rest of the turn through to the diplomacy phase the minors swap sides. Just ran it through again to test.

OK, I just ran it through myself and did not have Austria getting control of Algeria or Tunisia. Could you copy and paste your game log messages for Austria's surrender, like I did above? I want to see what you're seeing.

I am confused about Austria surrendering to Turkey in November 1806, and it's the November 1806 land phase after surrender that you provided me. Austria did not get control of Algeria and Tunisia in your game save according to the game log. Then Austria surrenders to France in December 1806 when I play it through, and again Austria does not get control of Algeria or Tunisia. Please clarify? I'm not trying to be difficult here, just needing to put my finger on the problem to fix something.

No worries, probably my explanations :)

A later save is attached below as I'm not sure how to copy from the log.

1806, Nov Loses 1 PP
1806, Nov Austria Gains 1 PP
1806, Nov Tunisia Falls To Austria
1806, Nov Loses 1 PP
1806, Nov Austria Gains 1 PP
1806, Nov Algeria Falls To Austria
1806, Nov Oran Controlled By Austria
1806, Nov Austria Is In Fiasco Zone!
Alright, I see now. Austria going into Fiasco is a clue, so I can investigate that rather than chasing surrender condition rabbits down a dark hole. Very odd. I swear there are gremlins in the code out to get me...

BTW, you can right-click on the game log box and then select Copy To Clipboard. Then paste into Notepad or something. I do that a lot to search for events and such, or to copy&paste selected messages like I did above. Easy.
