how many units can be simulated at the same time?

Post by hanzawa1991 »

May I ask, in the CMO game, how many units can be simulated at the same time? I am thinking of a drone swarm combat scenario, but it requires up to 800 units. I wonder if this is feasible?

There was a Desert Storm if I recall correctly with as fully accurate OOBs as possible with like 25K AUs before the missiles started flying. It's not so much what CMO can do but how much your machine can handle.

I play on a pretty ancient AMD FX-8350 @ 4GHz with 8GB ram and Win10 and I can handle 3000 AU scens pretty comfortably.
Obviously not at double flame speed but still easily playable.

In my experience, it´s not (only) the AU count that will kill you. It´s all the other stuff going on.
Jamming and the pathfinder algorithm are two of the big CPU hogs, so if you can keep that to a minimum, you will have a lot more resources to AU´s.

Also things like range rings, both own and enemy, targeting vectors etc. cost CPU resources.
As tylerblakebrandon said, It´s your machine that´s the limiting factor here, not CMO.

I´m sure there is a theoretical maximum AU count, but I have no idea how big it is. My gut feeling is that it is so ridiculously large that it will have absolutely no relevance to the game :)
