End of a battle

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

End of a battle

Post by adarbrauner »

Hello to all, I'm playing for the first time the game.

Currently, I am running a fleet exercise and the subsequent battle, but how and when does the battle end? The "enemy" ship is maimed and the friendly is emptying the ammo, now what how can I stop the exercise?

The battle ends when:

There are no enemy ships at sea, due to being either sunk or withdrawing to port - note if the battle hasn't ended, either there or more ships or you haven't reduced the Enemy to a sinking condition.

The time runs past a certain point and you are well separated from your enemy

The timer hits the limit and the fleets are not in visual contact (it will check every few turns after this if you are still in visual contact)

An absolute time limit is reached

*edit* For an exercise, the ships are not damaged in any way shape or form, it's a hyper-realistic simulation.

Also, I forgot you can force the game to end after so many turns - but you may get punished if the fleets are not adequately separated

The problem with ships continuing to shoot at a crippled enemy is a known one. One thing you can do is (in Captain's mode) take control of your ships near the crippled ship and tell them to cease fire/stop firing torpedoes, and/or move or turn your fleet away from the cripple. Firing endlessly at cripples can run through ammunition very quickly, especially if you use the auto-designer's suggestion of 90 rounds per gun for main battery. If one of your ships becomes crippled, this is a good thing, btw, because AI controlled fleets will pummel your cripple and sometimes leave your other ships alone if you are trying to run away. No cloud without a silver lining!

The OPs choice of wording indicates it's a 1-on-1 battle, if so the ship is not sinking or burned out.
