Movement Orders - move deliberate and assault

Post by PeterStep »

Have come back to the the latest update of the game after some time away. May have missed this change but can't find any reference to it in the manuals, previously I could issue movement orders of move deliberate through six waypoints, confirm then go back and change the last one to assault. Not able to do that now, only options are to change to move hasty or delete. However I can set a movement order of assault through six waypoints then confirm and change the first five to move deliberate to achieve the same effect but with more mouse clicks.

If it is an unintended process I can send screenshot and saves etc.

Peter, this sounds like a bug. I'll get a report into our bug tracking for the team to review and fix. Thanks for the report.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

Yes, please a screenshot and a save game. If possible, include the Command Range overlay (ctrl+x) in the screenshot.

The game puts restrictions on assault orders outside the command range; we'll take another look at that design choice.

William,

Had another look in light of your comment about command ranges. Screenshot Waypoint 2 shows that you can change move deliberate to assault because it is within the current command radius of the unit's HQ. You cannot change Waypoint 3 (Screenshot Waypoint 3) because it is just outside the current command radius.

I can see the logic in restricting assault orders to when a unit is within command radius at the time the order is issued, but I think it is unrealistic not to be able to issue one for a future move and assault if the objective does not lie within the current command radius. The assumption would be that HQ and units move in concert to maintain command, this limitation means having to adjust orders once the HQ is within range of the objective, perhaps limiting long moves to a final assault. And of course it can be side stepped by setting all waypoints to assault then changing the early ones to move deliberate thus avoiding the restriction. Worth another look?

Rgds
