Unexpected Behaviour of Four-Ship Strike Mission

Post by Asterix761 »

Hello everyone,

I encountered some baffling behavoiur of a four ship Tornado formation on a deep strike mission with Taurus cruise missiles.

The mission's concept is that the Tornados will depart from Buechel, Germany and strike targets in the LGD-93A ANDRAVIDA area in Greece, launching the missiles from within the Italian LIR-405B and D areas. On their way to and from the launch area they are to avoid the airspace of non-NATO member states, pre and post strike AAR is conducted over NW Italy. The planned targets are bunkers, so I set the WRA to launch four Taurus from two Tornados at each target- It is a bit of overkill, I know, but I wanted to simulate guarding against attrition by air defences, although nothing to this effect is included in the scenario, or weapon malfunction.

When I run the mission everything works as expected right until weapon release:

Of the four Tornados, only the lead aircraft launches its two Taurus and then proceeds along the planned course to the tanker and then on to the base.

Two aircrafts launch one missile each and then continue to fly towards the target area. Some 50 miles before the target, they start to set up what looks like an off-axis attack, but normally before they launch their remaining weapons, the previously launched missiles strike their targets. The two renegade Tornados then try to RTB on a direct course, but inevitabely they run out of fuel and crash. Of course, they try to make for the tanker during their attempt to fly home, but normally they crash before reaching the tanker.

The fourth Tornado will launch both its missiles, but then proceeds to loiter in the launch area until weapon impact and then follows the flight plan back home, refueling at the tanker on the way.

Is there a setting I overlooked or may it be a bug?

Thanks a lot in advance,

There's no save attached, impossible to debug without one.

I ran this scenario and saw a similar result. Seems the first to fire follows the plan exactly, but 1 other seems to loiter while the last 2 press the target. I figured it was due to WRA for the Taurus but looking at it, I didn't find anything obvious. I'll keep messing with it.... maybe it's not WRA? Could be the flight plan? Somehow only one jet seems to follow it as designed.
