UI problems with 4K resolution

Post by humi »

Certain UI elements has fixed positions or proportional width which becomes a problem with 4K resolution. This is a problem with and without Windows' scaling.

Here is a list of few of these issues (see attached images):
- Side selection dropdown selector is hidden unless I resize window width to a really wide size
- Browse button on Load Scenario window is fixed and becomes hidden if I make the window width smaller

Also, the left side panel has rendering issues if my CMO window is maximized to full 4K size and the panel is first minimized and then opened again (see attached image). This will crash CMO if I repeat previous step couple of times.

Edit:
I mentioned that the side panel seemed to work fine if I kept CMO window size smaller, but that's not actually true. It only re-rendered the window, making it look like if it's working.

Hi,

Have you used the 4KFix tool?

Yeah, it shows:
"Command.exe appears to already be properly configured for high-DPI environment. Press any key to exit."

I mentioned in my post that the side panel seems to work if I kept the CMO window size smaller, but that is not actually true. It only re-rendered the side panel content, making it look like if it is working again.

Check the DPI settings in the short cut on your desktop.

Okay, so I did some troubleshooting with different display scaling, monitor setups and DPI compatibility settings and so on.

Those UI button and selection element issue still exists even with 1920x1080 resolution, but it's not as visible of a problem as with 4K resolution. It's not such a big issue but would be nice if these were fixed at some point.

The side bar rendering issue is now gone and the root cause was probably an external application. I don't know whether this was a fluke, but the side bar started working after I restarted Asus' GPU Tweak III.

Then there is this other issue:
CMO seems to automatically append "~ DPIUNAWARE" to AppCompatFlags if it detects high DPI primary display. This seems to be same as what the 4KFix does. Is this caused by "AdjustForHighDPI" that is seen from the ExceptionLog during startup? Is it possible to allow user to use their own compatibility settings instead of forcefully doing this decision on behalf of the user?

I personally like "~ HIGHDPIAWARE" more because everything looks more crisp in CMO without the forcefully enabled DPI scaling. Microsoft Support describes this feature as:
Application – Disable all Windows scaling settings and only use the app developer's setting. This option was called Disable display scaling on high DPI settings in previous versions of Windows.
