Feature Request: Degrees of hostility separation

Post by Eboreg »

There has often been a problem with various scenarios governing sides giving moral but not military support to other sides. There have been far too many scenarios where NATO attacks a certain nation it has beef with while the Soviet Union observes but then immediately decides that it wants to do more than just observe when NATO fires the first shot. Dawn Strike, Operation Praying Mantis, and Act of War are key examples of this problem with Old Grudges Never Die being legendary in its Charlie Foxtrot potential. While Alliances does have some pretty good measures in place to prevent this kind of problem while still allowing for a particularly careless commander to set things off, they're also quite complex and beyond the abilities of most scenario designers. Is there some kind of way to add a side or doctrine setting that prevents sides from jumping in to help friendly sides that are getting attacked?
