Help! Which version to use..Naval Regression Error

Post by Vanman »

Hello all,

Pete Garnett and I started our first game in years and were doing quite well until we hit a snag in March/April 41 that killed it. Experienced a 'Naval Regression Error' which only seemed to kick in when Germany/Italy had naval units in the same port (though it could have happened regardless). We were using version 4.4.1. I usually don't like utilizing the newest version as I find that has the most errors. Looks like 4.4.1 is not clean enough either. Any recommendations for which version is most bug free (at the very least does not have this particular error). Most appreciated. Thanks!

You might wish to try version 3.2.0

Is this netplay or solitaire mode? If the later, if you attach the game file I'd be happy to take a look. Not sure what error you hit though?

I suspect it was a naval digression, not regression. Most likely some ships had to abort during naval movement or combat and the game froze.

I think you are correct Paul. It was Naval Digression.

In some cases, one of the players has a screen informing of a fact that he needs to close or answer, however, these pop ups sometimes are hidden off screen, some beta testers advised to try to bring them up front trying windows combinations like alt+tab or similar. Maybe worth trying.

Usually the problem is that the window you need to answer is not off-screen, but hidden behind another window. That is why hitting windows commands to bring windows forward sometimes works.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

Funny, I took it literally as a [software] regression error and was wondering what the regression error might be.

In my case, I dont think it was under a window. I think I looked thouroghly, maybe I was wrong. I was using 2 screens and I blamed it to an offscreen location.

Anyway I still believe it is worth trying.

In my case, these problems were caused by a form behind another form (for example, on air combat). Clicking the MWiF logo on the task bar usually minimizes the app, and clicking it again it brings it up again, sometimes with the right form on top.

I had an experience in a game where the naval digression due to an interception combat abort froze the game. Eventually we decided to go back to naval moves and just not do the interception. That way at least we could keep the game going. Just assume the interceptors didn't find their prey.
