Major fault with morale, AI unit placement & other issues

Post by buttonjock »

Hi

There's a critical fault with the morale system that almost ruins the game. Tanks have no morale, only that of the infantry they are assigned to. I've come against enemy battalions that have only tanks as all their infantry have ben killed.

Because there's no infantry, the tanks have no morale rating, so they don't break. In fact, the tanks will keep fighting even when all the tanks have been destroyed, inflicting horrific casualties at least, but often defeating attacking units altogether. This is even against infantry where the training levels are all 10.

Even if defeated, the battalion does not retreat and is not destroyed, even though it has no infantry and no tanks. A subsequent round of combat is forced, where the battalion magically has a small number of tanks that still fight to the death and beyond.

The AI also a fault regarding new unit placement. I can only place new units in cities, yet the AI can place them anywhere at whim. One example, a single and isolated location, with no city and no connection to one, with nothing in it except one of the above-mentioned super-units, miraculously had a new full strength unit placed in it, then others after that, still with no city. This area should have been secure but in that particular game it nearly destroyed my entire flank.

On another note, the different speeds of battalions are very annoying as it makes it difficult to coordinate attacks. It's a nice idea for single units and very useful for breakthroughs, but battalions moving together should be able to be grouped so they move together.

Unless it's deliberate, there's a flaw in the creation of battalions. The design process only allows six companies, however I'm finding quite often that a seventh company appears. I endeavour to design battalions in groups with the same number of companies to have the same speed, but this can skew the speed of the battalion

An alternate design program, where an existing vehicle is upgraded would also be a good idea. Just putting in a new engine wouldn't be a time consuming major project.

It would also be nice to be able to change the names of existing battalions.

Regards
Colin

Having said the above, I do actually enjoy the game, especially the vehicle design process. This is brilliant and really saves the game, although I've never had one go long enough that I could research enough levels to design and field a tank. The best I've got to and had operational is an 8-wheel vehicle.
