What happens if the Germans push to the Svir River?

The Svir River borders on Finland. The Soviets don't seem to be defending the approaches very much.

The manual says nothing about what happens when the Germans link up with the Finns on the Svir River.

Anybody know what happens?

Basically nothing in a past game I played I captured Arkhangelsk which in theory cuts off almost all of the Northern theatre but the theatre box remains and the territory is still Soviet.

Now I understand why the computer Soviet doesn't bother with defending that entire sector of the line, thus allowing the Soviet Divisions to be concentrated in fortified lines, two lines deep, in the center and south of the game board.

Historically there were just a handful of divisions there anyways.

They put a hell lot of forces there to get the Finns out of the war in mid 44. This is currently poorly reflected by Soviet forces present and required force strength in Northern front but I have some ideas to fix this.
Axis have a similar front that soviet forces mostly leave by, the Balkans.

On a related matter - LL North. Whilst it is true that if the Northern route was closed, the supplies and equipment would still be available to be sent to Russia, the Allies did not have the extra shipping for the longer route via LL East, and the extra shipping and ASW escorts required for longer routes to LL South (avoiding the Med until probably 1944. If they used the same shipping and ASW resources as was historically used on the LL North runs, they would either be running the replacement convoys (via LL South and LL East) about 1/3 to 1/2 as often and the volume of delivery reduced accordingly. In addition there were port and rail limitations in the LL South route (and rail limitations from Vladivostock), despite, in the former case the provision of Allied locomotives and rolling stock specifically to assist the haulage of LL South equipment across Persia. There is IIRC, apart from the many excellent resources on LL generally, an official history of the merchant navy {I can't recall the exact title - it was years ago I read it) which details the acute allied shipping situation throughout the war and the tonnages used. With some adjustments to the events system, this could be reflected quite well. Conceivably LL South could be similarly treated. One of the limits on moving LL South deliveries to LL North (apart from weather and icebound ports) is availability of heavy surface covering forces for the operations. Regards. Vermin.
