Air Unit Cannot Be Selected / Found

Apologies if in wrong thread, because not sure where to mention it.

I had a unit in Italy "I/JG53" with 109G6 that was operating from San Severo.

As the Allies invaded and advanced I thought I had relocated all my gruppen north so they would not be overrun.

Perhaps I did not, because on 17 Sept, that unit is still listed as being at San Severo, except that airfield no longer appears. It is behind the Allied lines, but does not show up any more so presumably not in use by the Allies.

However it is shown on the ORBAT of Luftlotte 2, but does not appear if you "Select Air Units".

Obviously it would be nice to get it back, but will accept if it got "overrun". Of course in reality I would have thought that a unit could be reconstituted, even if it was overrun - although it would seem surprising that an entire unit could be lost this way.

Would appreciate knowing if it's retrievable, or I should just forget about it.

Hi.
If it was overrun, and the Allies speed of advance can take you by surprise sometimes, you will get it back in about 10 days and I think in Luftflotte Reich.
It's annoying so better to pull them back further than go through this.

Thank you for explaining that. Clearly I did not react quickly enough. Also it turns out I didn't pull those units back far enough. This is the great thing about playing this for the first time. My Italian groups got a hammering and I lost way too many on the ground. The Allied Mediterranean forces were way stronger than I could cope with. So I finally pulled them back further north. Of course if I play a second time I'll know not to make that mistake. I like those sort of challenges!

Turns out it was not one group I lost but three! It was very welcome to get them back.

The method for doing so was quite specific though. Firstly you need the movement points like for any air unit move. Then the fun is in selecting the unit. They only appear in one list. For example they do not appear in the lists of units for a specific aircraft type. The only way to select them is from the Campaign Summary, then the Order of Battle screen, and then you will find them in the order of battle of their original Luftlotte, listed against the overrun base (which will no longer be on the map). You then select the group and can move it as usual.

From the what's new file: Axis aircraft displaced by Allied ground advances return in 15 days instead of 30, but lose all damaged aircraft.

Are you saying that you were able to select the overrun unit from the OOB and bring it back into the game before it's normal 15-day return date?

Sorry I don't know how long it took, because I'm not sure when I "lost" them. Nor do I know if they lost any damaged aircraft. When they were listed under the Luftlotte 2 orbat, they were shown as complete groups with 40 aircraft ready. But I don't think they would have shown up anywhere unless I had moved them from their "virtual" location.
