Steel Inferno Causes Strange Unit Issues
Hi,
I played War in the East Game 2 for a year with no issues. I purchased Steel Inferno and successfully installed it.
When I looked at the new scenarios, the units looked strange. The Headquarters units have armor insignia instead of HQ and the names are not complete with lots of asterix *******. Some units have "-" for food/fuel/ammo values and strange unit size designation. (See Case Blue German examples in the attached file.)
I wasn't sure if this was normal or not until I saw a you-tube video showing the new Steel Inferno scenarios. Then I realized that there was a problem with my version.
Is there a fix for this?

What platform are you playing the game on - Steam or Matrix standalone?
From what you've provided this may be an installation issue. Have you tried doing a clean reinstall of the game? Are you still seeing the same issues after that?

Re: Steel Inferno Causes Strange Unit Issues
This does look like an installation issue of some kind. Maybe a mix of new scenario files and old OB files, although I'm not sure that would explain some of what is shown. Best to reinstall as suggested.

Happened to me too. Just did a uninstall/clean reinstall- and still having the issue. The contents of the units seem to be correct. but all the names are weird and out of whack- e.g., all the infantry divisions on the map are now labeled Panzer Grenadier divisons. And the color Army color identification is not there.

Re: Steel Inferno Causes Strange Unit Issues
Is this the Matrix version or Steam version? What installer did you use? Did you have WitE2 installed first, and then used the original Steel Inferno installer? My understanding is that if you already have WitE2 installed, it is best to use the multiupdate installer to both update WitE2 to the latest, and install Steel Inferno. Matrix is working on fixing a known issue with using the original Steel Inferno installer, although we're still not sure if the problem you are running into is because of that.
It helps to know the sequence of installations that were made.

Matrixgames version: after installing Steel inferno you have to run the game update installer again to update the Steel inferno files.
On Steam you may have to verify game files

Re: Steel Inferno Causes Strange Unit Issues
I am running the Matrix games version (not Steam) with Windows 11. I have not done a re-install as I wanted to check the forums for a quick fix.
What is the order for installation? Should I do it in this order?:
WITE2 v01.00.07, then WITE2 v01.03.07, then Steel Inferno v01.02.45

Re: Steel Inferno Causes Strange Unit Issues
Also, is there a program to un-install the game?

Re: Steel Inferno Causes Strange Unit Issues
You should be able to uninstall using the standard windows Control Panel/Programs option to uninstall.
My understanding is you don't want to use the 1.02.45 installer for Steel Inferno after you've updated the main game. Matrix suggests you use the multiupdatecomp for the game (either 1.03.07 official or 1.03.10 beta, which you can access from the announcement threads in the WitE2 forum). My understanding is that you should be able to use this to register Steel Inferno as well as the main game. If that's not the case, then we need someone from Matrix to answer the question as to exactly what you should do. What you don't want to do is go back and install Steel Inferno 1.02.45 after updating the game.

Re: Steel Inferno Causes Strange Unit Issues
Right. I think I installed Steel Inferno after the WITE2. That may have caused the issues.
I will put in a ticket with tech support to walk me through the sequence and the install programs.
Thanks.

WitE2 install, WitE2 update, steel inferno install, re-run WitE2 update

Re: Steel Inferno Causes Strange Unit Issues
What Dennis said should work, although it's more steps than ideally should be required. That's what Matrix is working on improving.

Re: Steel Inferno Causes Strange Unit Issues
That sequence is the safest way.
Re: Steel Inferno Causes Strange Unit Issues
Here is the sequence for the installation from tech support. This worked for me. I recommend you follow this sequence.

2. Unzip the downloaded file and run the extracted file "GGWarInTheEast2-SetupRelease-v01.00.07.exe" for installing the base game in your hard drive.
Now install the update and unlock the DLCs:
1. Download the base game last update installer file "GGWarInTheEast2-MultiUpdateComp-v01.03.07.zip" (*)
2. Once you have finished downloading the file please unzip the file to your hard drive.
3. Run the extracted file "WGGWarInTheEast2-MultiUpdateComp-v01.03.07.exe".
4. When asked to insert the serial number, please click in the drop down menu "Select a New Product to Install... " and select "Gary Grigsby's War in the East 2: Steel Inferno".
Type your "Gary Grigsby's War in the East 2: Steel Inferno" serial number.
