It may not be the right tactic but i was trying to send the Enterprise fighters to Pearl, in case the KB hangs around.
I very carefully select the VF-6 F4F x22 and the screen displays it. I transfer it to PH and the screen changed into the VS-6 SBD in PH, and obviously wont let me put the SBD's on CAP.
I have done it 5 times with the same problem. (with screen shots if needed).
What am i doing wrong.

Check Pearl for VF-6....GP

The Enterprise TF may not be close enough for the F4F-3s to reach, and IIRC, drop tanks are not yet available for them or they cannot carry one.
At any rate, I think it would be foolish to strip Enterprise of her fighters with KB nearby - that carrier is more valuable than all the PH shipping and airfield.
