PBEM+++ Upload Failed and Recovery File Not Found

Post by DukeBannon »

My upload failed (see attached) and when I tried to follow the instructions, SS couldn't find the recovery file even though it exists on my system. Coincidently, or not, my opponent had an issue uploading his file that immediately preceded my turn.

Is this battle beyond any hope of recovery?

A quick question to check. Did either of you update from 2.1.3 to 2.1.4 during this game/turn?
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

I'll ask my opponent and report back. Both of us are using the Steam version and I am still at 2.1.3.XX.

We recently released 2.1.4.8064 as a public beta. Have you tried this latest version? Are you still able to reproduce the issue on that version?

Note, if you move to 2.1.4, any game saved (or a turn taken in PBEM++) will not be able to be loaded by 2.1.3.

I am using the Steam version so I'm not sure I have access to the beta version without installing a separate copy. If I did that, is it safe to say that I would be writing off this current battle?

You can find instructions on how to access the public beta here: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 1#p5153491

The beta will be able to load old saves/continue old PBEM++ games if it is still possible. The release version will not be able to load beta saves though (until release is updated to have the beta version of course.)

I finally heard from my opponent and he is at 2.1.3 as well.

Should I avoid starting other PBEM+++ games until the next version is released?

In general 2.1.3 PBEM++ works fine. If you and your opponents want to do 2.1.4 it should be better, but that is still beta. If you do have any problems with 2.1.4 please let us know so I can fix them.

The few people I know at https://www.facebook.com/groups/wgcgwargamersclub who are playing PBEM+++ Southern Storm are having the same issue and I believe all of us are reluctant to start new battles. Hopefully 2.1.4 is GA through Steam soon.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "GA through Steam". You can already switch to 2.1.4 if you have a steam install now. It is currently a beta version, but is publicly available. If you want to try the beta do:
right click the game in your library
Properties
Betas
In the dropdown select 2.1.4
Note, saves made while on 2.1.4 (or turns taken in PBEM++) can not be loaded by a game client on 2.1.3.

What I meant is, hopefully the update will be generally available (GA) through Steam soon. I’d rather not try to convince the few people I play Southern Storm with to install beta software.
