Troop holds bug?

Post by Orm »

Allies invade Italy on the third. I then get the message that the 29th Panzergrenadier Troop holds. Or something to that effect. I thought that would be a good thing. But when I look at the map I can not find the 29th Panzergrenadier, It looks like it has been destroyed.

Picture of south Italy on the 2nd, and third respectively. The disappearing troop marked.

Hi.
It's not a bug. Plenty of times after the fall of the Gustav line and the Normandy front I have had German divisions destroyed. You will get a message if that fact has happened. The divisions are reconstituted far from the front.
The 29th did its job and delayed the Allies but suffered grievously in the effort. I've seen divisions retreat over a 100 miles after very heavy losses.

Thank you for the answer.

If it is as you described then I suspect there is an error in reporting events. I got the hold report from it, but no further report from that unit. Not that it had been destroyed. Not that it retreated a 100 miles or something.

Edit: As for holding... the Allies took pretty much as much as they always take during the invasion impulse. Although, it could be that the unit have been holding every time I played and it is just the first time I noticed it disappearing.

If attacked, your ground troops will either "delay" the Allied advance, which saves a nearby location (probably Isole airbase) from capture for a few turns but with heavy casualties, or it will "defeat" allied assault, which will add a 1 day delay to the next front collapse.

If Allies "defeat" one of your divisions then the 1 day is subtracted from the collapse clock. If they "overrun" one of your divisions then it's a big casualty loss for your guys although all of these events will attrition your troops to some degree.

Thank you. It was 'hidden' among all the other sites in Naples.
