Assigning a new course to a datalinked weapoon does not generate a final leg.

Post by Zanthra »

Version: 1328.15

When a new course is plotted for a weapon with Datalink midcourse updates that is not identified as a loitering munition, it will not turn towards it's target, and if it's out of seeker boresight it will not hit.

See in this attached scenario if you update the SLAMER to have a similar course to the pre-plotted course I added, and you don't add an additional waypoint pointing it to target after the final waypoint, it won't adjust.

Compare that to the HAROP, which can be sent miles from it's target far out of seeker range, and still get's directed back into it's target after the final waypoint.

Sorry I didn't actually attach the scenario to the previous post. Fixed now.

We fixed something related to DL weapons in B1328.17, is this still an issue ?

No changes to this in .17, if the guided missile reaches it's final waypoint without the target in sight, it will close the datalink and fly straight ahead. I did some further testing, and it seems that this only affects weapons fired against "fixed" targets, such as buildings (or for some strange reason 1x Cars which I discovered can't move and show up to an enemy as a non-mobile target icon 4x cars are mobile).

Perhaps this is due to some optimization for weapons fired against fixed targets to avoid doing any midcourse guidance since the target can't move anyways, but this prevents the missile from receiving a final leg.

See this updated scenario. If you update the course of both of the fired tomahawks, one of them will create a leg to guide it to the target, while the other will continue straight past the final waypoint.

I've plotted both tomahawk courses using F2 and no problems with the final leg under 1328.17 (also I've used F1 to both tomahawks to remain the target assigned) I'll investigate the issue of not using F1 to see if it is WAD or not

Assigning a course to the Tomahawk against the fixed target (#12) and allowing a tick to pass, no final leg.

Assigning a new course to the Tomahawk against the mobile target (#13) and allowing a tick to pass, creates a final leg.

The result is that when #12 reaches the waypoint, it loses the datalink and continues flying away from the target. While #13 maintains the datalink until in seeker range, and follows the extra leg to the target.

#12 will always lose the datalink after the final waypoint, regardless of whether the target is in seeker range. It will only hit the target if the final course allows it to eventually see the target with it's seeker.
