New scenario for testing: Ambalat, 2025

Control of the Ambalat sea block has been disputed between Indonesia and Malaysia for decades.

On June 30th 2025 two Malaysian patrol boats entered the disputed area and chased away a number of Indonesian fishermen. Afterward, the Malaysian patrol boats remained in the disputed zone, and after numerous diplomatic protests, the Indonesian government decided to send two patrol boats to escort the fishermen to the disputed area and possibly remove the Malaysian boats.

The Malaysian ships approached the Indonesian ships as they entered the area. After a heated discussion between the boats of the two nations, despite Indonesian warning shots, one of the Malaysian boats suddenly increased speed and sailed toward the Indonesian fishing vessels. The captains of one of the Indonesian patrol boats decided to ram the Malaysian vessel. The Indonesian vessels approached the Malaysian patrol boat from both sides. As the boats got closer, the Malaysian vessel started firing warning shots at one of the Indonesian vessels, forcing it to turn away. As this was happening, the other Indonesian patrol boat rammed the Malaysian vessel. In the moments after the ships collided, the Malaysian vessel suddenly fired a short burst from its gun at the other Indonesian vessel. One of the shells hit an unknown part of the ship and caused a disastrous explosion that ripped the small vessel apart, none of the crew survived. The other Indonesian ships quickly withdrew from the area.

When the news (and the videos filmed by the fishermen) of the incident reached Indonesia, the public and various lawmakers erupted in anger. The Malaysian government claimed that its vessel was firing warning shots when it was rammed by the other Indonesian patrol boat, causing the last shells of the burst to hit the Indonesian vessel. The Indonesian government demanded the immediate withdrawal of all Malaysian vessels from the disputed area and compensation for the loss of the vessel and crew. The Malaysian government refused. After hours of debate, the Indonesian government has decided to take control of the Ambalat sea block and destroy any Malaysian forces present.
