Ship configuration cannot be identified as any legal ship type

Post by thedoctorking »

I've complained about this before: the system should not allow you to do things in the designer that are illegal for whatever reason. And even if you can't code that, what is wrong with this design? You should be able to call a ship whatever you like, at a minimum, a ship that goes 31 knots and packs 16" guns should be either a BC or a BB, this design doesn't work as either one for some bizarre reason.

I have the All Forward tech, but when I put a gun in the Y position, it suddenly was okay with it being a BC. Is All Forward somehow borked?

I've attached the save game file. Since the game wouldn't accept the design, there's nothing specific to see, but maybe you can look at my tech list and see if there's anything funny there.

Did you position the secondaries or was that done automatically? As normally, the secondaries get mounted to cover the stern with an All Forward design.

Edit: Though the All Forward tech only unlocks the weight savings from the design - you can build an All Forward design without the tech, so that really shouldn't be the issue.

Hi,

please check if a BB needs 8 Main Guns?

Good call, Bigfish.

It does look like All Forward needs 8 guns if you only use 2 turrets. If you use 3 turrets (ABC, ABQ), you can get away with only 6 guns.

It a warship mounting AB turrets with 6 guns between them is classed as a B - and is thereby speed-capped at 23 knots.
