GPU stress

Post by slimatwar »

How really demanding is the game for the gpu?
I see my RX 550 (combined with Ryzen 5 1600) working nearly at 100% most of the time. Maybe is there a problem with the GPU or bottleneck?

It is more demanding since DirectX 11 release.

I guess you may help the devs with additional info.

In any particular scenario or in all of them?

Which view settings of the map do you use?

Lot of dependencies here...

What overlays are you using?
What is the FPS when CMO's map is showing?
Are the GPU drivers up to date?

When that card came out seven years ago, it was focused on DX9. It now supports DX11, but has significantly poorer performance. I think the key is the FPS. I limit CMO to 30 FPS on my 4090.

First of all , I use Directx 12 and my drivers are up to date.

Fps are below 17 and sometimes below 10 on various scenarios such as "CSG-21 in the East Med 2021" , "Blood Diamonds 2018" or even "Strike tutorial#1" on Relief+Bathymetry and BMNG layers.

I'm not sure what "using DirectX 12" means. A GPU is only going to use DX12 if the game is built for it. Your card uses, DX9, 11 and 12 depending on the app/game. And some older cards don't support DX12 at all, even in updated drivers. They default back to using DX11 then. If you look at the GPU benchmarks for an RX 550, it has 50% of the score in DX11 compared to DX9. You have a seven year old card that in 2016/17 was considered entry level.

There are all kinds of things you can do to optimize the performance in the Radeon control panel. Lower resolution, turn off AA, etc.

OK, the DX version depends on the game. What I mean in the my previous post ,is the DX version that dx diagnostic tool show for my machine.
Also I know very well that my GPU is very modest for most brand new games. That's why I'm asking how demanding is "CMO" for a GPU, because I've thought that the RX 550 meets the recommended specs.(RAM=16GB)
