Re: And it starts
September 1941. Above, I was willing to say I can't merge small armies because of the lack of production.
Why I think a conversion to 22/36 is a good idea is that with effectiveness lowered they are not yet a threat. But, this is maybe too hard too quick. No, I think the rifle corps to small armies conversion is quite nice now.
This is just that during 1941, lend lease can't help very much Russia since UK is alone. And Russia production is so low.
4 armies forming. I have only 4 rifle corps remaining.

Re: And it starts
I thought you only built Anti-tank...so why can't you merger?
Are you trying to merge one of the 20%'ers that now has a reasonable experience level?
You could just build all Assault...though I am okay with the two...once the Russians start winning is sucks to be stuck with all Anti-Tank and pay to convert them all back.
I am okay with the differences at the moment....
As an Allied player the concern I would have...noting was built during this time...though perhaps that is good now that all the units are small armies. For me I was stuck with tons of small corps and I was fine that they got destroyed so I did not have to worry about using them.
As an Axis player the concern I would have is my mech was extremely weak as winter is coming. That is very dangerous. Though I I don't worry if my units are 9s....it was more the turn you had where they were 1's and 2's attack / defense.
Overall I think the advance was good and where they should be, though perhaps a little further in the South than expected.
Hard to gauge with the screen shots.

End of September 1941. The frontline is quite stable. But, the result of an Axis all-in in the East: Tobruk is about to fall.

Re: And it starts
Yes I am building nothing. I am just repairing. And since prewar, all the 40% exp corps were anti-tank and the 20% exp corps were assault, I am trying to merge them now that they are around 36% experience due to the fighting.stjeand wrote: Fri Mar 15, 2024 2:46 pm I thought you only built Anti-tank...so why can't you merger?

Anti-tank is what I am still thinking best to do casualties to the German manpower, that is too high.

Re: And it starts
No, the progress is bad in the center. In fact, it would be correct if the map was correct. German troops at two hexes of Moscow end of September, this is pure fiction.stjeand wrote: Fri Mar 15, 2024 2:46 pm

If the map was correct, Briansk would have been taken end of September. Yes this is correct.
The remaining balance issue is now tied to getting on a correct map of Russia.

Re: And it starts
Well well well and here is 1942.
1942 and Fall Blau is starting. Axis is still doing an all-in strategy despite the fact North Africa is completely taken by the Allies. I am not yet ready for the invasion of Italy, not enough landing ships.
The Soviet defense is pulverized. Moscow / Bryansk is captured.

Re: And it starts
The Panzer ball is steamrolling everything in front of it. I have no other choice than to retreat. Quite historical for June 1942.

Re: And it starts
July 1942, Voronetz is threatened. The position (206,59) is correct on the map. So, historically, nothing to complain.
The Germans are heading south east. Are they going for Stalingrad? I don't know yet.
I have 67 armies. But, in this count, I have 18 small armies. So, in reality, 58 armies. My air is in very bad shape. Despite priority for repairs, land units are always coming first. I even wonder if the repair cost is adapted to the Soviet cheap air units price.

Re: And it starts
If I am comparing this game progress with the corrected map, the frontline is quite correct. This is really in the north that the Rzhev saillant is completely absent and should have absorbed a lot of German corps.
That's why the Germans are so powerful. The Russian space is underestimated in the north.

Re: And it starts
Of course, each turn, I am checking UK and USA is at max for lend lease. And I have MMs. So really I am doing everything. And while, I can’t recruit new units while repairing and upgrading the existing ones (my air units are not repairing for example); the Germans are. Looking at forces screen each turn, the German army continues to grow.
The same conclusion is here. German’s manpower increase, by events, is too strong in 1942. I would suggest to start them only in 1943. USSR production is a bit too low if you are losing too much MMs.
Happy Easter, game is paused during this long weekend.

Re: And it starts
what do you mean by corrected map? Germans approaching Moscow by September of 41 doesn't seem that unrealistic if they had kept going after Smolensk instead of turning south to Kievncc1701e wrote: Thu Mar 28, 2024 6:13 pm If I am comparing this game progress with the corrected map, the frontline is quite correct. Re: And it starts
The location of Smolensk, Moscow and other cities is incorrect. I have already explained this in another thread. Have a look at the above screenshots and you will see MOSCOW with an empty hex without city. This is the location of Moscow in the game. It is wrong. This location is between Bryansk and Tula. Far more reachable than in reality.generalfdog wrote: Sat Mar 30, 2024 8:55 pmwhat do you mean by corrected map? I agree with you that German could have continue after Smolensk to advance towards Moscow. But a real Smolensk location, a real Moscow location. To have a correct game balance, you need to work and play on a correct map. That’s why I am always comparing this. I don’t care anymore to lose Moscow since it is not real.

Meanwhile, Corsica is mine. Still retreating one hex at a time in clear terrain, hiding behind rivers.

Mid July 1942, the advance towards Stalingrad continues. I am putting the best infantry armies there.

End of July 1942, surprise! The Germans is striking north around Smolensk. I am doing the best I can to close the gaps but my position is fragile.
