Resource Management of the colonies, starports etc

Post by HTG »

Hello,

I have trouble managing the resource for colonies and star ports, etc. As long as the resources are automatically managed, so many of my colonies do not have any building resources at all, while the mining stations are overflowing with the resources.
As this behaviour is delaying me very much, I decided to manage it myself.

Helpful improvements:
As it is quite boring to fill the resource management of every new colony by hand, would it be possible to define a template for the building resource, which I can apply with a click or two?

Is there a reason, why I cannot set the "maintain" value to any value I like? some values are change by the program for no explainable reason! Even when I enter unrealistic values, the program should NOT interfere, maybe a warning or so. This happens more often, when I change the maintain-value for a resource, which is mined there. For example I enter "4000" and press ENTER, the program changes it to "1131" for example. This is quite annoying. I would be very thankful if that could be fixed.

Where can see what the population of a planet needs/wants from the luxury resources? Is it the yellow marked entries in the luxury section of the resource table? IF not, can it be marked somehow?

I would propose to have the general policy for the freighters, that the resources should be distributed to the colonies equally if not ordered otherwise by the resource management? Storing the resources in the mining stations is the worst solution, at least for me.

Building: I often try to build a ship and the detect, that I cannot even order the ship on a certain colony, because of one of the resources the required amount isn't available at that colony. I mean, why can't the colony start building AND order the resources in parallel? Or at least let me order the ship and start building when resources are available?

Thanks so far,
Tom

Hey thanks for the report. If you have stock levels set to automated, the automation should determine what the stock levels for each planets should be. Freighters should then begin transporting resources from relevant mining station, and mining ships should be going out to available sources of the needed resource to fill the stocks of the planet.

From the info you provided it's hard to tell right away what might be going on, as it's possible that there are policy settings or other factors at play that may be affecting how resources are transported/distributed.

Do you mind uploading a save where you've been noticing this? Also, what version of the game are you on?

Hello MaximKI,

thanks for your reply. I noticed, that at least the input of "maintain" resources seems to be fixed with on of the last updates.
As I am managing the resource by hand now, I cannot tell, if the resource distribution of the automatic management is still leaving planets without building resources. Manually manged, this works well.
I noticed, that all my mining staions and research stations don't get any fuel, that isn't good, as when they are attacked, they are lacking the power to respond with their whole capacity.

Best regards,
Tom

We made a change to stations in that they no longer need to use fuel for weapons and instead need power from energy collectors. If you put ship design on automated, the AI should give your stations enough energy collectors to make sure they're able to defend themselves. Otherwise, if you're on manual ship design, you'd need to make sure that your stations have enough energy generation from energy collectors to cover their power needs.

Hope this helps.
