Question on logistics

Post by Torben23 »

Hi All!

I am on Turn 10 and I am getting serious supply issues. Can you help me. I have attached 3 screenshots. I have put all HQs on supply prio 2.

My question is: Why is the rail from Berlin not used? Itis only yellow and going east it only has a rail usage of around 5000. In the screenshots you can see the prio of my depots. I read everything here and followed your advice.

What am I doing wrong?

Your time and help is greatly appreciated!!!

Try something more like this in the south. Lvov at priority 3 and all depots east of that to 4. The priority 4 depots tend to pull more freight into them and that is what you are looking to do. Similarly you don't need all those depots between Berlin and Lvov at zero. That reduces the amount of freight you are pulling from the capital.

Thank you for the idea! Just tried it, however it has not helped at all I am afraid. The rail east of Berlin (the big one for example) has a rail usage of only 5600. As I understand the capacity is 30000. I do not get it at all.

Any other ideas?

Thank you very much for helping me!

FYI, you don't usually see higher rail usage showing on the map in your turn because it is reduced at the end of the logistics phase (but not brought down to 0). IIRC, if you're seeing a number around 5000, you were heavily/fully utilizing your rail during logistics. If you move units over the rail during your movement phase, you will be adding to the rail usage, and in those cases you can see the number go higher (and the color can go to red). This will mean that in the next logistics phase, you will have even more jammed up rail lines and will get less freight movement.
All understanding comes after the fact.

It may be worth talking about your expectations. Only one unit in seven is actually under-supplied by the game's definition which really isn't too bad. If you are receiving 40-some percent of needed supplies around this stage is really fairly average. Getting 22k supply can be improved on, but you have to give what I described time to work. It won't just immediately improve the basic situation. Depots close to the front are often empty because they give all their stored freight to units. Those farther back eventually receive fewer requests over time and will start to stockpile an excess. Could that be why it looks to you that no change took place?

Didn't want to create a new thread on the topic of logistics so figure i would piggyback.

Looking at the supply details view for a unit, why do so many units get NEGATIVE replacements? What even does that mean?

I have multiple units on refit, some off the front-line, and some units under the same supply priority will get 2200 replacements, some will get 50, then more will get -50 or -100. Is that the replacements lost during freight? Men lost during logistics.

Thanks!

negative replacements is sending stuff back to pool, usually damaged equipment

oh that's actually really cool, any way to know what it was or is that abstracted? (i.e is it tanks, mortars, wounded men?)
