No O-chits?

Every game of WiF I have played or seen has used O-chits. Not using them looks awful; the Germans need them early, and the Allies need them late. However, this opinion is based on what I would think would happen, based on my WiF experience. As I said, I've never seen what a game without O-chits is actually like. Has anyone played without O-chits, or has everyone decided that this is a necessary rule?

If you have played without O-chits, I would love to hear what it was like.

I've played several (10?) of games with the versions before the offensive chits very introduced.

The risk of those games was that Germany got stuck in France. At a tournament I saw a unlucky German playing well, but rolling bad, getting stuck. So bad that Switzerland was declared war on in an attempt to outflank the French. It failed. The game ended in 41 with France pretty much intact and US entering the war.

I had one game as Germany when I was close to getting stuck, but managed to have enough luck to batter myself through the good defence terrain, and not unlucky enough to being beaten back by counterattacks. But it cost Germany plenty.

The risk of 'trench' warfare in France was a real, dreaded possibility. In my humble opinion. Never really thought it improved things for the later war. For the end game I thought it made things to easy for the Allied side. Still do. Allies can play way to many offensives in the late war.

I have used O Chits mainly in France and at the end of the game the few times we reached 45, with some exceptions for invasions.

Once I spent all my GE Ochits trying to conquer France but I rolled all the time 2s, 3s and 4s with 2d10, an incredible bad luck. The effect was mainly like I had used no OChits and had rolled average.

GE was invaded by Russia in 42.
