You know nothing about whether or not I have any baby goats nor does society really have to pick up the pieces other than for the victims and punishing the perpetrators. At least, not in the USA where this lawsuit is taking place.ElvisJJonesRambo wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2024 6:05 am You're answering different questions that have nothing to do with the lawsuit. comment #1: "You don't want to live in a society where 'everything'.....". That isn't part of the lawsuit. Everything isn't on trial. Harmful video is on trial. There has to be some limits. Yes, there are harmful games which are videos.
No company is forcing anyone to buy and play their games.
comment #2: "personal & parental responsibility". That is a truth and is NOT part of the lawsuit. 9-year olds aren't at an age of accountability for buying cigarettes, alcohol, warning labels on rap albums, entering certain movies, allowed to drive a car, legalized drugs, <other-items> depending on local laws, entering casinos, opening bank accounts. Law is applied differently by age. 9-year olds aren't even teenagers. Access starts with the sellers. This includes Bars, Libraries, Schools, other adults allowing access to weapons, name it.
Yet the companies are being sued and not the parents for allowing and possibly enabling the child laying the game.
How many kids were hurt or killed because parents (with wonderful parental skills) won't install car seats, use safety belts. How about all the faulty playground equipment that companies KNOWINGLY produced that harmed. How about the Food & Drug Administration (that's USA) allowing addictive harmful foods that KNOWINGLY cause cancer.
Diversion, not part of the suit not to mention Darwinism is invloved.
I will give you the benefit of the doubt, you care for your kids and probably 80% of society does. For the 20% of bad parents (I made up this 80/20 rule, it's subjective), the rest of society has to pick up the pieces of those who fall between the cracks on government paid resources: Healthcare, Schools, Financial Hardship (aka food/housing), etc.

Re: Another bizarre US-style lawsuit
Being a parent or not being a parent has nothing to do with the lawsuit.
Being a parent or not being a parent is not a requirement to be involved in the lawsuit.
Being a parent or not being a parent is not a requirement to have an opinion.
Allowing Darwinism to happen to 9-year old kids is foolishness, selfish and sad.
Darwin is dead.
So Darwin, died of Darwinism.
Yes, you are correct, Society as a whole in the USA, doesn't have to do anything.
But Society does do something to help the less fortunate whether you like that or not.
Society offers some help to those down fallen (by whatever means they accomplished their fallen state).
Society collects taxes, to give food, clothing, shelter, etc. to those who have fallen.
Thus, collective responsibility is something that effects us all. Well, maybe those who don't pay taxes, don't care.
Everything is relative.

More than 70% of World Pop is still in Feudalism in terms about thinking perhaps..Republic regime is not yet known yet. And this talk about lawsuit, wargames about real people and conflicts.
Re: Another bizarre US-style lawsuit
that article is typical behavior of bad (failed) parents. It is not my fault that my child is behaing wrong, it is tv/games fault. not mine.
And yeah, oportunity to earn milions for failed parentage is good reason for lawsuit too.

Parenting, what is the definition of "Parents"?
If we are allowed to assume, a biological Father living with the biological birthing Mother, okay.
Could start there, without going into a rabbit hole side-bar conversation.
Next, what 9-year old kid plays Activision games all day (of these parents or single parent)? I would say USA, South Korea, Japan, certain parts of Europe have the most young addicted gamers. The kid would need the ability: Electricity, Time, the Game console, little bit of money for the game + food.
A parent in a country without certain laws, could just smack the kid, problem solved. That a good parent? Maybe, maybe not. A kid without electricity, well, they don't fit into this equation.
Sometimes, good parents, get a rotten kid. Look at David. Other times, can be opposite, bad parent (even orphan), turn out good.
How can I score some cash in this lawsuit?

did you read/watcheed lord of the ring series ? there is great scene in which frodo offers his ring (of doom - sauron) to gandalf, and he refuses. with words "i will use it in attempt to do good, but in the end i will become great tyrant. dont tempt me frodo."
do i need remind you that road to hell is paved with good intentions ?
and for parents, no, it doesnt need to be biological parents. all it is needed is that they are RESPONSIBLE for raising given person (child).
and why you think it is activision or any game company problem/fault that 9yo play all time thiers game ? it is parents FAILURE that they are incapable or uncaring to find child any other fun than playing video games.
and yes, sometimes slaping is good for personality growth. just look at times in which slping was allowed - many slaped child turned to be succesfull persons, unlike generatin of childs which were banned to be slaped, turned out to be...less sucesfull.
how can you score cash in this lawsuit ? well, from that article i got idea that this lawsuit isnt about forbiding microtransactions, but about to get money from game compainies.
and yes, us lawsuits are sometimes extremly crazy, which will fail every time if tried to be pushed outside us.
ever thought why there are lawsuit against gun companies if anyone got shot by bad guy, and sucesfully, while no one ever got lawsuit filled against car compenies when they got hit by a car ?

@czert2 --- Lol, I'm far from Commie. I'm not allowed to tell people what I believe on this Forum, I get warned for even "hidden words" within sentences.
I just play the victim card like everyone else. Give me free stuff. I deserve special treatment. I'm a protected class. Somebody killed my ancestors 500 years ago so I should be given more free stuff. Accountability is not my problem.
Woe is me. I'm helpless. Give me, give me, give me.

jup, that sums young generation well. everyone want to be high earning manager, and are greatly disapointed that there is not only enough manager positions for them, but realize that manager needs to have workers under him, otherwise there will be no manager. and that they are to good to be workers.gamer78 wrote: Mon Apr 08, 2024 9:10 pm Lawsuits and 1st World problems not much comparison with failed state and society in other regions but I've an impression Western World especially young generations on looking for inheritance money from the old. It's called Western Law. There's Judges, Juries, & new Technology Laws being learned. The Technology Age is all new, uncharted waters. Relax with your loose verbage of "Commie". Allow little time for rules & regulations to guide the Capitalistic Society within the Technology Age. Lawsuits require Judges and Judgments.

I also take exception to the title of this thread "Another bizarre US-style lawsuit".
Why is it bizarre? USA has great laws.
Does "the Congo" have trademark and technology laws? How about Iran? North Korea? Do they even have legal systems or video games? What is technology law like in Palestine or Syria?
Layoff legal insults to the USA.

i dont know about your generation, but for mine it is normal thinking that after you will get your first work, you will need to work some time to get financial stability, and after it you will have to take mortage for 20-30 years to have own living, and then to your firm come young person with a dream of having own living in just 5 years without mortage, and looks insulted that you told them, that they dont find that amount of money there, and look at you that it is you who is crusing thiers dreams, not thiers lack of work experience or education.
did i mentioned that they view 40 h/week as something very demanding, because they will lack time to pursue thiers hobbies ? they want less work hours for same money.
sure, there are rational persons among young generation, but they are minority.
and calling many person commies, i picked it up from young generation which moto is basicaly "everyone who dont agree with me is nazi/hitler".
of course, there is nothing wrong to hold companies to some standards/responsibilities, but that dont change a think that yeasies way how to change companies behavior is to hit them hard where it hurt them most, thiers income, lawsuits are waaaay less efective.
do you recall campaign to stop buing palm oil to save rainforests ? it worked, and forced companies to look for more enviroment friendly alternative.
current young genration will think that blocking road traffic or daamaging/destroying art will change things and earn them sympaties.
but these actions have so many views and likes on sociel networks, so they must be very effective, right ?
and for your links
first link activision vs pro gamers can be translated as greedy company vs greedy pro players. players allways have posibility to move to events sponsored by other companies than activision, or to move to different game. if activsion revenue will be greatly reduced due to lack of pro gamers, they whey will be forced to eighter to change rules or be happy with way smaller income.
but biggets money are under activion, right ?
so basicaly, pro players cry about monopoly that they keep feeding and alive. i found this irony hilarious.
yet, players instead of smart and imediatly effective market move decided to go unrealiabble lawsuit which will take a lot of time ta have effect.
second link, blizzard and harrasment - well, this is more complicated. so i divide it to more separate topics.
a) sexual harrasment is bad and should be punished without delay, and need to say, blizzard fired persons for that, even before lawsuit.
b)unequal pay is hard to prove, because it all goes down to job experience, job quality and education. if anyone feel he or she is underpaid, have opinion of lawsuit under equal pay act of 1974? .
c) in relation to b, game development is specific with need for "crunch time", and be honest, why i or any corp owner should pay equal pay to persons, in which one is reliable crunch timmer, when second one will give you middle finger when need for crunch time arose.
d) quotas how much women were suposed to be at xxxxx, is complete idiocy. why i should wait many months for woman to show up for job, when male is currently avaivable ? when i look for coder or graphic artist, why i should care is he is male or female ? my primary concern is quality of shown work and time in which they completed it.
actualy, if i rejected male person based on female quotas he will have every right to suit me for discimination based on gender.
e) what i find extremly interesing that lawsuit/agendas pushing woman quotas are related to only high/extremly high payed jobs, like managers, ceo and similiar. no one ever tried to push them for low or middle income jobs like forrest industry, car mechanics, truck drivers...etc. try thinking why.
third link
actualy, that is not very surprising since great tren od social networks and among young generation is that "you cant be racist against white person".
on actual note, not long time ago at scotland introduced law which have goal of fighting against racism, and many politicand and news were surprised that many persons under this new law filled complaints against scotish politican (minister, mayor or someting like that) for his racist remark against whites.
fourth link
basicaly reteling of development of first link.
anyone who have monopoly will try to abuse it. doesnt matter if it is game company, oil company, car company and any imaginable company.
and while you are partialy right that technology law is relative new regarding other laws, but hey compuer games started to get serious money 30 years ago, so it hardly new thing. law did have a lot of time to adapt.
and no, game company is company as any other, so there is absolutly no reason (except some specific cases) that laws which work say for automotive company or oil company should not work for games company.
and computer games were here way before boom of 1990s. onlyest thing which changed is size of market of computer games compared to other markets.
and what you mean no labor laws of 1900s ? explain to me, in exactly which way is labor law of pro gamer employee different from lets say, lumberjack or truck driver ?
how exactly labor law difference them ?
or we can even come to labor law and look at nba stars, footbal stars, formule 1 stars or any other sport stars, tell me, in which exactly labor law see pro gamers differently that other sport stars/employees.

What country are you from? I'm guessing Eastern Europe the way you're all amp'ed up on Commies.
English your second language? If you're considering making a real legal argument piece, need to tidy up on the written communication. Glad you're not a Judge.
Times change dude. So who cares about your mortgage. Not sure how we went from Activision to younger generation to your personal ramblings.
