UI Feedback

Post by EwaldvonKleist »

Hi, to me, efficient game workflow and useful shortcuts are among the most important attributes of a game. I have noted the following issues:
1) Setting unit movement path and movement type (deliberate, assault, hasty etc.) seems the most common ingame activity, yet requires a right-click and then multiple menu selections. Simple (single letter) shortkey options for this and all following checkboxes would be very welcome.
2) Switching between units in a hexagon requires the strg-r shortkey or to click the very narrow visible part of the lower counter, a bit cumbersome for such a common task. An alternative could be that clicking again on an already selected unit in a stack would change the selection to the next unit, so you could cycle through the stack by repeated clicking (not too fast of course, since doubleclick opens the unit detail window).

Still learning the game, but so far I really like the concept of the game. The WEGO market is underserved, even more so on the operational&strategic level!

1. Unfortunately, we can't do single-letter hotkeys within the game engine, as it is a codebase limitation. Some folks have worked around this using third-party software to set up keyboard shortcuts, and that may work for you in this situation.

2. If you hover the mouse over a stack, you will get the flyout menu that shows all of the units in the stack, and they can be selected by clicking, including shift clicking for multiple selections. I will bring up the click-on-the-stack idea and see if that is something we could do if it does not break other functions.

Hi, thank you for the reply and thanks for considering 2).

I think it is useful to estimate a hierarchy how often a) certain information is needed and b) how often a certain action by the user is needed in typical game flow and then adjust menus, shortkeys etc. accordingly.

The most common actions ingame from my perspective are
1) Unit selection and unit selection in stacks.
2) Movement plotting.
3) SOP changes.
4) Unit state changes (hold, resupply etc., barrage selection etc. ).

They should all be accessible and changeable with single mouse click and/or a simple (one key) keyboard shortcut, ideally in the WASD region so you can do it with one hand and zero movement. But even changing SOP has the very unwieldly Ctrl+K (and I have rather big hands!).

Best regards!
