Re: Naval and Defense News
"an intelligence center in Tel Aviv was hit and an intelligence gathering site was hit in the Golan Heights"
I'd like to see the sources on that. With reporters all over Tel Aviv and not a single report, pic, or video of it, I'm highly skeptical. Unless maybe that fire in Chile that Iran claimed was proof of hits in Tel Aviv is the source.

Yes, we cannot easily believe the claims of either side in the conflict. In fact, video shows Iranian ballistic missiles successfully breaking through a BMD battery that was engaging. This makes the Israeli claim somewhat dubious.DeepTyphoon wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2024 11:35 am"...according to the IDF."Sanyr1310 wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2024 6:05 am https://twitter.com/Schizointel/status/ ... 2946131094
If this is true, Israel's BMD systems are surprisingly effective.170/170 or (100%) of OWA-UAV's intercepted.
113/120 or (94.1%) Ballistic Missiles (no specific number of interceptions given just that "some hit Nevatim Airbase resulting in minor damage" Currently, 7 missile impacts have been recorded in Israel.
30/30 or (100%) of Cruise Missiles intercepted.
Now there's an unbiased source.
I don't see the IDF allowing journalists on the targeted airbases to report on this stunning defensive victory though.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The first casualty in war is the truth, right?thewood1 wrote: Tue Apr 16, 2024 12:27 am "an intelligence center in Tel Aviv was hit and an intelligence gathering site was hit in the Golan Heights"

Both Iran and Israel have every reason to bend the truth. Iran will say the attack was a great success and Israel will say it was an abysmal failure. We won't know the facts until later. Truth is probably somewhere in the middle. Both sides are trying to establish a credible deterrence while not going so far as provoking catastrophe. A tricky tightrope to walk.
The source for the hits I gave come from various word of mouth places. Like this linked video. Not the word of God so take it with a grain of salt.
Minute 1:13 to maybe minute five.

Re: Naval and Defense News
Will separate boosters, large pieces of debris and decoys be identified as BMs? If I remember correctly, Iranian officials claimed that they only used "a few dozen missiles" (a similar expression). A similar situation occurred in the monitoring data of China's ASBM test launch in 2020, when the US claimed that two out of four ASBMs failed and crashed, while China claimed that it only fired two and Internet photos subsequently showed the separated booster.thewood1 wrote: Tue Apr 16, 2024 12:24 am I suspect Iran spent a lot too. Israel and others can afford it more than Iran. Especially if BMs are running 40% failure.
The other interesting aspect is that several TV reporters stated that shortly before the BM attacks, their phone GPSs shifted their location from Tel Aviv to Beirut. One of the disadvantages of any country using a GPS capability they have no control over.
If nearly half of the 100 BMs failed, it would be too hard to believe for a country that obtains technology from China, Russia and North Korea and exports weapons to Russia.
Re: Naval and Defense News
It is also important to note that the vast majority of targets in almost all videos do not exhibit a clear terminal maneuver trajectory (from high altitude to touching ground), and their speed is not fast. This makes them easy targets for Iron domes, David slings, and Arrow-2/3s. But even so, there are targets that break through the BMD systems that was engaging.Sanyr1310 wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2024 6:05 am https://twitter.com/Schizointel/status/ ... 2946131094

Advanced MaRVs or HGVs such as LRHW, DF-15B/16B/17/21D/26/27 generally have high G terminal maneuver capability. This can be verified by OSINT or academic sources.
There are indeed videos of Iran using at least one MaRV, which can be used for simple terminal maneuver, and successfully penetrating defences. However, I think this maneuver is for use only to improve hit accuracy and not for avoiding BMD interceptions.

Also the Israeli sparrows? or the AIm-7s

Re: Naval and Defense News
These are the sparrows in v504, old stuff. The new one is a modification of the old sparrow, or they just used the same name for a completely new missile?
The other weapon you cited from the article, rocks, and also absent in the DB.

Re: Naval and Defense News
yes interesting weapons. Basic ballistic design but can be used deadly with Israeli and American Surveillance, guidance kit and a pretty nice warhead. Would be interesting to see how well Iranian defenses would hold up. Their best bet is the S-300's they have but very limited use.
But it seems after these new events in the past month Israel will be focusing on more Air to surface and Surface to Surface weapons in near future because It seems their stand off weapons are very limited other than their air fleet which has to come in very close. I'm sure Iran will also be purchasing more Russian/Chinese hardware soon as well. Looks like the regional arms race is getting hot.

Some sobering news. If one thought that the situation in the DLC Chains of War...this later article would make the situation presented in this particular DLC look like a walk in the park.

And sadly even though I what one would call an aircraft carrier fanboy...even I think now it is time to discard carriers and switch to the submarines.
Take about irony of having to learn from the old Soviet Union Cold War Navy:
