As transport/cargo ships but best of all in invasions.

Love LSD's for heavy equipment Army divisions. High speed and phenomenal unload rate.

LSDs have a well deck where the landing craft are parked while loading "dry". The ship then lowers itself, flooding the well deck and sending the landing craft on their way. Much more efficient than craning equipment over the side into a bouncing landing craft. Same for loaded-down troops on a scrambling net.

I don't think that he is asking about that kind of LSD.

So the scene in HBO's The Pacific where Sledge is in the ship about to assault Peleliu, that's an LSD?

You can't plan LSD ship operations on LSD

Actually, don't remember the exact scene.

But if things rolled into beach from ship, that is LST.

If they came in as with LVT....

They might have come in that instance from LSD.

That is an LST. In a LSD, the rear would flood and the tractors would swim out.
