Limited lifetimes for characters

Post by LoBlo »

The game needs some changes to characters.

1. Limited lifespans:
Whatever hero you have (scientist, general, etc.). No one lives forever. The lifespan of the characters should time directly into the lifespan of the species. Upgrades in medical technology should have an impact on the average lifespan of a character. For example, humans at tech 1 med should have a 100-year lifespan. At tech 7 it should be 200 years. Additionally, as characters reach the last years of their lifespan, they should start losing skills unless they have the "longevity" trait like albert Einstein and keep skills up until the end.

The current setup has problems in that characters are immortal (unless killed in battle) and continue to grow to astronomical skillsets.

2. Maximal positions open
It would be nice to be able to control the maximal number of generals and admirals a military can have. Having limited lifespans will help this as well. But also, setting a number in the empire control tab for "max number of generals" and "max number of admirals" would keep the tedium of having to pause and delete unwanted characters away.

Devs, please give it some tought.
