Re: GW Counterfactual Take 3.
Ethiopia that was under Italian control is still showing as controlled by Italy even through Italy is now completely conquered. I guess I'll see what will happen on the first allied impulse.Courtenay wrote: Thu Apr 18, 2024 9:30 pm Ethiopia should have gone Allied in the conquest phase, after the Italian land and air units were removed from the game.
If it did not (and I have had trouble with this in the past), try declaring war on it with an Axis power next turn.
By the way, I'm going to be occupied the next 10 to 14 days with family stuff (it's good not bad). So, I'm looking maybe getting back to this game and AAR a week from Monday (4/29) at the earliest to two weeks from today (5/2) at the latest.

Just thought I'd post the reason for the delay.

Re: GW Counterfactual Take 3.
While I'm definitely enjoying the family time I do miss my game so I've been reading over the last few pages. Noticed several typos and see what images I need to post to make a stronger narrative following over a phone size screen.
Most significant is that I'm pretty sure I forgot to include the 22 BPs Germany got from Italy at their surrender in Germany's gain for the turn.
Making a note here to correct that when I get back to the game.
By the way I noticed I made even more typos and grammar errors than usual in last impulses and end of turn as I was rushing to get this done before my break.

Turn 23. May/June 1943. War Directives (Turn).
Italy. Completely Conquered by Western Allies.
(1) Turn specific war directives are in the first section, all other war directives for the entire war (game) for Italy in second section.
(2) Italy had a total of 28 war directives issued over the entire war and a 31% (weighted) success rate.
(3) With that low of a (weighted) success rate it's no wonder that Italy is the first major power to be defeated.
(4) Well actually the second, France was the first major power to be defeated.
(5) However; Italy is the first major power to be complete conquered.

Re: GW Counterfactual Take 3.
Turn 24. July/August 1943. War Directives. Start of Turn Review Notes.
War directives is the tool that I use to keep my game historical (counterfactual) and competitive. It’s takes a good a day or two each turn to review, evaluate and write new directives for each major power. I do this one given major power at a time and from the (counterfactual) historical perspective of that MP. Also, I try to ignore and not let other MP’s war directives influence the given MP under consideration. To say the least that’s sometimes hard to do. If there’s a reasonable chance that other MPs would suspect a given MP’s directive then I will write a (counter) war directive for that, or those, other MPs. However; if not, for example I find a flaw or weakness in an enemy’s MP disposition, then I take a probabilistic approach to whether or not that enemy’s MP also figures out and addresses their flaw or weakness. Usually in that case I’ll make a D10 roll and if it’s 1-5 they don’t address and 6-10 they do.
I evaluate each MP’s war directives at the end and at the start of each turn. For end of turn reviews, I evaluate, score and close if necessary. For start of turn reviews, I write new directives, change priorities on existing directives and even close if necessary.
I’ve just posted the turn relevant war directives for each major power for last turn’s (Turn 23. May/June 1943) end of turn review.
Now it’s time for this turn’s (Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943) start of turn review. During last turn’s end of turn review I did jot down some potentially new war directives.
Germany
• (MTO, High Priority) Contain allies in Southern Italy.
• (MTO, High Priority) Keep Rome.
• (Eastern, High Priority) Stabilize the Siberian (Eastern) Front.
• (Western, Med Priority) Beef Up Southern France (Vichy) Coastal Defense.
• (Western, Med Priority) Monitor and Respond to any Western Allied Buildup in UK threatening Occupied France.
• (Western, High Priority) Send 1 Oil to Vichy (needed by Vichy who have 0 oil for oiling).
CW
• (Middle East, High Priority) Maintain vigil and respond accordingly in a timely manner to alignment of Turkey to Germany.
USA
• (Atlantic, Med Priority) Liberate Martinique.
• (Atlantic, Low Priority) Liberate Guadeloupe.
• (MTO, High Priority) Capture Naples.
• (MTO, High Priority) Capture Rome.
• (Western, High Priority) Open another front in southern (Vichy) Italy? – or –
• (Balkan, High Priority) Flanking amphibious landings in northwest Yugoslavia?
All western allied (CW, USA, Free France) war directives assume full support from their other two ally partners.
The Western allies haven’t decided between whether or not to try to get into France via southern (Vichy) France or launch a flanking invasion in northwest Yugoslavia and (try to) shake things up and get things moving again in the Balkans. It’s pretty obvious to the Western Allies that it’s going to be slow going pushing up through Italy and something more is needed to stretch/divert Germany and help the USSR; especially given what’s happening in the Caucuses with German break throughs and potential alignment of Turkey. This development is also prompting the Western Allies to maintain a force that can redeploy to the Middle East (mainly Syria) if Germany does succeed in aligning Turkey.
USSR
• (Eastern, High Priority) Hold Siberian River Line from Kirov in the north to Kuybyshev in the south.
• (Eastern, High Priority) Reinforce, hold and expand in and around Volga.
No war directive is “official” until entered in the AAR combat logs. I will post such “official” new war directives once entered. Also, the new directives will likely deviate some from the above as I will take a longer look at “officially” issuing them (i.e., new directives for some of the major powers).
Also note the above discussion is about new directives that are to be added to existing and still open war directives. I will also review all open directives for any priority changes.
