Italy can search in two sea areas.

Since you haven't searched in them earlier in the turn, and not much changed in either sea area, I continue with our impulse assuming that you did not plan to search here.

If this was in error it is easy enough to go back and fix it.

Land actions for Italy and Japan, combined for Germany.

No naval air.

Moved German subs into Faeroes Gap and Bay of Biscay. Will only be searching Faeroes Gap.

Miss.

Land moves: Germany shuffled a few around in West France and Egypt. Same for Italy. Japan continues to move men to the South and some East toward the coast.

The stubborn Brits are finally eliminated from Greece.

The Axis commanders are bitterly divided over the Greek campaign. The theoreticians of modern warfare are aghast at the length of the campaign. If memory serves me correctly, and it may not, the campaign took nearly a year. They argue that waiting until better preperations had been made was the correct approach. The generals who view the campaign as a success argue that the British invested heavily in the defence of Greece and in the end, the result doesn't justify the efforts. The Axis took minimal losses while the British suffered heavy casualties, and even built a Greek mountain corps that was never placed. I tend to agree with those who view it as a success. It was a very slow slog, but efficient in terms of assets used vs the assets lost by the British. It's my view that the forces used by the Axis could not have been effectively used elsewhere, whereas I'm not sure the British can say the same thing. At any rate, the campaign is finally over and the historians will have to sort it out.

A showdown is looming in Egypt. Both sides have committed to this campaign and it's outcome will have a major bearing on the war.

I don't know if a name for this defensive maneuver by the British has been coined, so I shall attempt to mint one. If it has a name, someone please share it. I'm going to call this the "Gascogne foothold". From google maps, it appears there is a large forested region to the SouthEast of Bourdeaux which has the name of "Gascogne", so let's go with it. I've seen several Allied players use it, and once you face it, one can see why it's difficult to squash. The allied player puts two good infantry with an AT gun to the hex Southeast of the city of Bourdeaux. This hex is a natural fortress. Behind a river inside a forest with Vichy territory to the East and the Atlantic Ocean to the West. Ain't no way to easily flank it. That leaves only one hex from which to attack. The British have a massive fleet and air power based in Great Britain with which to keep these units in supply. This presents the Axis player with a difficult problem which can grow into a major strategic problem if this foothold is not eliminated. We shall see what the Axis high command decides to do about it..if anything.

Combined actions for Germany and Italy, land for Japan.

Naval Air: Axis flies the Finnish Fokker, 110C, and the the Italian Alcione to the two box.

Naval Moves: Italy moves two cruisers to the four box of the East Med and load the Italian infantry division from Alexandria and the German infantry division from Athens. Germany moves a Vichy French CP from Mogador to the West Med.

Axis search Bay of Biscay and fly the Italian Sparviero to the two box in support.
