WITP again after 10 years, unfortunately with questions

Post by Packo »

Hello,
since yesterday I've been playing WITP again after a break of over 10 Years.
Although I've already played over 1000 moves as USA against the AI, it will probably take a few Days to get the hang of it again.
After the refresher I wanted to play again as USA against the AI in the 41 to 46 Scenario.
I have two Questions about this, as Restarting due to incorrect start settings in WITP can be a really annoying affair.
I think the first move always took me several Days!
But only the first one
Later on it was usually only about half an Hour per Day Phase.

1. Which of the 41 to 46 Scenarios is best suited to my Plan?
Only with China, of course!
I don't quite understand it and don't want to make a mistake.

2. I think the difficulty level wasn't set high enough in my last big Game. ???
Since I didn't finish it, this could be a completely wrong assessment. ???
I hate Strategy Games when they get too easy!
What can you recommend to me against the AI to make it exciting ?
I hope to beam the Rest back into my Brain myself.
Greetings

Hallo,

Welcome back to the game!

It will take awhile to remember all the things you used to know, but the learning curve will be quite quick when it starts to come back. You might want to play a short scenario to get the hang of mechanics before you dive back into the big Grand Campaign scenarios to avoid any big mistakes while you get used to the game again.

The AI has no intelligence, it is just a bunch of scripts that get triggered depending on dates and other events so do not expect much a challenge. That said, at a minimum you should play scenario 2 to give the Japanese some more stuff, and probably one of the iron man scenario's if you want to make it more of a challenge.

You should also play on hard or very hard difficulty. This will make combat harder for you, and give the AI supply to far off bases as it is poor at keeping the supplies flowing beyond Japan.

Here is a link to the scenarios, maybe someone else has a more current link.

I remember that Andy Mac updated the AI scripts as well.
Here is a link to the scripts and how to install them.

Finally, there is an update in the works that will be out at some point. It could be weeks, or months. You may want to wait to start the GC or not depending on when you want to start the GC.
Here is a link to the discussion.

Good luck with your game!

Thanks Pbiggar,
one Answer and everything is in.
Great Work !!!
Thanks !!!
Unfortunately, I never really liked these little Scenarios.
There isn't enough Logistics for me.
That's what I like about WITP.
This Update is of course a reason to wait, even if I don't like it at all.
Now I've finally got the game running again, but I can't do what I want
Sh...

The existing game is completely playable and enjoyable now. My advice is to start one of the GC scenarios, and then play the next game with the patch. Realistically, there are some tweaks in the patch, but seriously how much more fun will it be?

For maximum fun, nothing beats PBEM.

Yes Pbiggar, PBEM can't be topped, of course.
But you have to find the right/suitable opponent first.
So roughly equally strong and reliable.
Especially with a time-waster like WITP, that should/must be right.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of Riffraff for whom fair Play is not the top Priority!

One more thing:

I discovered a small problem with the Graphics Resolution.
At 1920x1080, I'm missing a few Centimeters at the bottom.
The upper white stripe is the Problem.
Unfortunately, I can't drag it away with the mouse.
The image keeps falling down.
It's only OK if I change the Resolution to 1680 x 1050.
1920 x 1080 would of course be better.
Unfortunately, changing the Settings in SeaBee hasn't helped so far.
Does anyone have any tips for me?

Are you using -wd for windows mode?

Re your screen issue: if you already haven't tried, go to your desktop, right click, pick Display Settings, then see what appears under Scale. If 100% doesn't appear, change the scale to 100% and then reload WITP and see what happened. (Typically, Windows sets 125% as the default, and if you change it to 100% things on your monitor will get smaller.)

If Scale was 100%, then go again to Display Setting and see if the resolution of your monitor to match what you're using for WITP. If it isn't, change the resolution of your monitor to match WITP and reload WITP.

Also, check to see if the taskbar for Windows is set to Auto Hide. It should be.

If none of the above works, you might mess around with different Scales (as above) to see of that fixes the problem.

But...sometimes you just have to accept strange screen resolutions as the game is old and Windows has its own issues.

Thanks Panjack, I tried it for about an Hour.
My Screen was already set to 100%.
I would have to set it to 96% and then everything would be OK.
But I don't think that's possible with Windows 11.
I'll google it a bit more in the next few Days.
Not in the mood today.
But I've just discovered that 1680 x 1050 is actually quite good for Gaming.
It's even a bit more pleasant for my tired Eyes

Have you tried SeaBee utility to configure Witp-AE?

Might make it bit easier.

Sardaukar yes I have, without the Program WITP is not playable on Windows 11.
At least for me.
I still have 26 A running, but hopefully that doesn't cause the small Problems with the Resolution.
At 1680 x 1050 it's ok for me and when the new Patch comes I'll start the big Campaign.
So the Topic can really be closed.

Just posted this on a different post.

On some machines full screen has always been a problem. My display is set to 1820x1080 so I use -pxf1900 -pyf1000 creating a more or less full screen window without taking the toolbar space.
