The game destroys a wonder instead of upgrading it

Post by 100thMonkey »

Platform: Steam
Build version: 1.2.2.0 Beta
Severity: Low
Annoyance factor: High
Confusion for new players: Through the roof!
Saved game:
The Culture - Ackdarian - 2810-12-16.7z
(6.98 MiB) Downloaded 18 times

Got a message asking if I wanted to upgrade the Advanded Shipyards to the High Speed Shipyards, for 25,000 credits (instead of the normal 75,000 credits to build the HSS), with the appropriate button to do so in the message box:

There are many problems with that...

If I go at Aloreun 4, where the Advanced Shipyards have been built, and then select them in the colony panel, the upgrade button is disabled. Here’s a screenshot of the tooltip:

So, an inconsistency in the interface: one part (the message) saying that I can upgrade the wonder, and another says that I can’t.

Given that the High Speed Shipyards have already been built at Sareta, it makes sense that the colony panel upgrade button would be greyed out, and that its tooltip would say what it says. But the message offering to upgrade the Advanced Shipyards makes a lot less sense...

But the biggest problem of all is what happens if I click on the “Upgrade Advanced Shipyard” button in the message:

* The credits are taken away from the cash on hand
* The High Speed Shipyards remain where they were (Sareta)
* The “Advanced Shipyards” disappear from their current location (Aloreun 4 in my case)!!!

And not only did the Advanced Shipyards disappeared from Aloreun 4, but I can’t rebuild them! Having a wonder destroyed be the game isn’t fun. Being unable to rebuild it: even less!

So, to recap:

* Conflicting info in the interface
* Losing credits and a wonder by clicking on the “Upgrade” button in the message offering to upgrade the wonder
* Not being able to rebuild the wonder lost because of the game.

You could test upgrading from the message button using the attached save, because I did the save before doing the “upgrade”.

Thanks for this report. This is likely due to the fact that there are still some issues with the advisor system, not properly tracking the state of things for the player in certain situations. This is an area where we're looking to improve in future updates.

Until then, it would be nice if a check could be put in place, so that before destroying a wonder to upgrade it, the code would verify that the existing wonder CAN be upgraded. If not, it would leave it alone (ie: not destroy it).
