Old School Wargaming. Those were the Daze

Post by OldCrowBalthazor »

My friend and partner in crime (in the past) 'Dark Taboo', left a comment some time ago on my YT channel. Not sure what prompt it but it was funny. Decided to share this.

Hmmm..OldeSchool Wargame Weekend:
Friday;
11am-break out Fire in the East and start setting up.
3pm Beer and gossip. Still setting up.
6pm Doobies, gossip, and arguing about house-rules.
9pm Still setting up but now difficult as the whole game-room is stoned and drunk.
11pm Gossip, we better eat, passout.
Saturday:
9am Hungover, still not done setting up. Where's the Romanians? Found them in the wrong tray mixed with Italians.
10am Hair of the dog! We are better now.
12noon Barbarossa.
3pm Axis first turn done..oh boy we are doing well.
break
4pm Russians stand and die or run...this is fast.
9pm Axis second turn done
Drunk, stoned, and disorderly.
The girls bust in and want to party.
..............doopdedoop........
Sunday: 10am Hungover
11pm Hair of the dog
12 pm Russians trying to break out of pockets except in the south where they WON'T budge. Hordes more Soviets expected.
1pm Axis 3rd turn
Riga, Minsk, Dvina River reached. F'd up in the south gotta get bulldozers for them
3pm Soviet 3rd turn.
Lots dying, lots running, more than a lot are stubborn and will fight to the end.
4pm Debate trying another turn...wish it was a three day weekend. Decide to document where everything is. (No cell phones in late 80s early 9os to take easy pictures
8pm where's my keys? 3 different people hah
9pm leave the huge task to Crow to clean and put it all the way.
Good times!

Hmmm... First I want to know what happened after the girls showed up after 9pm "doopdedoop" and second I want to know how one gets into "Groom lake" aka... "Area 51" and drives off with the security truck. Did ET fly you in and gave you the truck?

Party would be about it. Maybe things have changed but all the girls I knew found wargaming incomprehensible. Nato icons in particular were mistaken for envelopes and bathtubs.
