Laser Issue

Post by Selchu »

Morning folks,
So I have been playing a scenario I got through the steam workshop and that had also been posted on the CMO discord called Operation Liberty Dawn.
Now the author has added lasers to several ground units and ships as it is a futuristic scenario. He also put this note on the bottom of the brief:
5. HELIOS

CMO is a little weird with laser defences. A few versions ago they would auto fire like the Death Star under attack, now it's hit and miss. With incoming Vampires and Fireballs, I strongly recommend you manually target and fire defensive laser systems.
With his permission I changed some units after my first play through for a bit of fun.
What I found in the original and what I have found in my version (I have not changed any ground unit settings) is that the lasers are not auto firing on cruise missiles or HGVs.

I have attached 2 files.
The first is the original and the 2nd is one of my play throughs.
On my play through find Wake Island. The group labelled Group 5158 on Wake has a laser and if you keep watching it will be under attack from DF-26 missiles. These come in singly, not in a mass attack but still get past the laser. Whereas if you enter manual mode and allocate the laser shots then it hits everytime. Noted the same on ship laser but haven't got a save of anything specific. To replicate that I suggest turning one of the US CSGs west, let it run until they get spotted and watch. That lasers didn't fire for me either.

Many thanks
Sel

Good day.
I'm on phone so can't rest this right now, but I use lasers in a few scenarios I'm creating so was interested.
I had this situation early on in those scenarios' creation phase, so what changed that for mine was changing the WRA for the lasers scenario -wide to allow self defense...for some reason it seemed default to "no".
Hope that helps but I'm interested to look more when I get home

FYI have reset the defence setting to 'Maximum' to no affect unfortunately.

There's a fun scenario called "Breaking the Blockade" set in Ukraine, it's kind of a weird alt-history scenario with CGN's and a Russian carrier and lasers. It's pretty cool.

Anyway, 2-3 versions ago while playing that scenario, the lasers were targeting and firing on 100% of targets on their own. It's definitely hit-and-miss now (no pun intended). HELIOS will fire off at incoming vampires, but it seems like they are only firing on vampires specifically targeting the unit (self-defense.) I've set lasers to max self-defense and max automatic fire - I concur it doesn't make a difference.

It isn't a targeting/tracking/LOS issue either. I can have 60 incoming tracks and if I manually target them all - they'll all get splashed.

Was there ever any progress on a fix for this?

From what I have seen, everything dating back to 1328.8 has been very suspect. It appears that when one thing was fixed, another was suddenly broken.

The devs have recently announced that they are working on fixes to restore the program to where it should be. They have even provided links to some previous versions which will allow you to use those to play the game using those while they work on fixing the current version.

Since so many things are currently wrong at this point, I would recommend waiting until the new release comes out, and then testing your specific issue. That may not be the answer that you (or anyone else--including me) want to hear at this point, but it may be the best advice for now.

Be patient. I'm sure that they will fix all of the small stuff once they get the major issues resolved and restored.
