Japan resigned due to a dearth of ground troops due to the very large forces in Mindanao and Sumatra and SE Asia and due to losses in the invasion of Australia. 9-23-43...and because we were having trouble with turn speed.

Situation SE Asia: Moulmein was invaded and Rangoon besieged. Jap troops at the Indian border were beat up but the Imperial Guard Div certainly gave it their all and a remnant must have been flown out because they turned up in Siam. Tavoy was bypassed and is still besieged. We moved on Bangkok but there were many tens of thousands of Jap troops. Any clear hex was a death zone so we went East to the outskirts of Hanoi and Saigon but had to fall back to the Jungle as division after division of LYB's arrived from China. There is a Mexican standoff on the Mekong but the Siam airbases are now supporting B-24 attacks on Borneo oil fields and refineries.

A small early, 1 brigade attack on Sumatra failed and they had to be evacuated. A larger 3 brigade attack gained a foothold in North and NW Sumatra as the bases slowly built up. AIr situation now more secure and tow entire Jap divisions trapped at Medan. Small air and sea landings at unoccupied bases on West coast of Malaya. Kra Pensinsula is cut.

New Guinea and the PI: Due to the expedition of the IJA to Oz, the troops on Luzon lasted a very long time but they were eventually defeated by 7 or 8 Japanese divisons and tens of thousands of engineers and a shedload of arty..plus daily air bombardment. Some artillery and armor reinforcements even arrived from Midway. Remnants were flown out to Mindanao. Eventually, many degraded Jap divisions landed on Mindano and pushed us back to Malaybalay and Zamboanga and are still besieged, although supply is very low at Malaybalay. IJA casualties at Malaybalay were brutal. The 4th Marine Regt from Luzon lasted to their withdrawal date and went back to Camp Lejune with about 115 troops left.

The Japanese side put up a massive fight up the SW coast of New Guinea. Ultimately, we had more luck going up the NE coast. We tried a landing at Manado but Mushu showed up and made shredded pork out our cruisers. The troopships were cut off so they went NW and landed on Jolo after an air assault which worked way better than expected. We now had a supplied Level 4 air base right off Mindanao. The intervening waters are not safe as the Jap carriers are still largely intact. IJA annoyingly holding out at Ambon.

F6F at Jolo. Pretty nice. First try was royal blue like the whole thing had been dipped in paint. I changed it "F^F Hellcat, blue on top white on the bottom". I forgot to say how many prop blades.

There is a Tiger Swallowtail and a Monarch butterfly out front taking nectar from the Lantana. Every minute or so the Tiger Swallowtail takes off after the Monarch who wants none of it. Evidentarry we have a Trans-Tiger Swallowtail.
