I've searched the forums and manual and can't seem to find anything on this question: Is there any penalty to visual or sensor detection when the object being detected is approaching from the direction of the sun? For example: Would IR sensors be less effective if the target was approaching from the east during sunrise?

IMHO this should be only a problem in a very narrow sector, if the object has almost same direction and azimuth as the sun.
But there is another effect during dusk and dawnthat reduces IR sensors, called thermal crossover. Usually a landscape consists of objects with different heating properties. Some heat faster some slower, some keep the heat some cool fast. When the sun starts or stops shining (and heating) this leads to phase where many objects have almost the same temperature. And you just have a grey soup on IR screen. This is especially hated by the heli guys and girls, because they travel usually pretty close to the ground.
