I hate football.

Georgia were excellent value. How did they not equalise at the end?

But in fairness, the first two Turkish goals were true worldy’s and deserved to win the match.

Another great game to watch. This tournament, so far, has produced to some fine games. Let's hope the quality continues.

Best wishes,
Steve

Half time

Portugal 0-0 Czech Rep

First goalless first half, but not lacking in entertainment.

I feel it’s only a matter of time before Portugal break their duck despite the Czechs defending well…… but let’s hope not 😉

Portugal 2 Czech Rep 1

The Czechs certainly made Portugal work for it. Another very watchable game.

Rats - 90+2 and Portugal break Czech hearts

Both games were much closer than expected but the favourites won through in the end.

As if Ronaldo could get any more unlikeable….

Footage emerged of him taunting two Czech players after Portugal’ s 92 minute winner. What a totally classless, unsportsmanlike act…..

But onto the football and the second round of group games begins today. Hussah!!

Today it’s crunch time for Scotland and Hungary. Both will need to get something from their games against Switzerland and Germany respectively.

Come on Scotland - you can do this. Just pretend you’re playing England and play your best. The Swiss are a decent team but you can do it (said in hope not expectation).

Equally, I’m hoping (again, but not expecting) that Hungary can upset the Germans in their own backyard. The Germans looked ominously good against Scotland last time out and, based on recent results, appear to be getting back to the Germany we all fear - and not the shambles that failed to get out of the group stage at the last two tournaments.

Neither Ronaldo or Mbappe covered themselves with glory in their respective games. I love football. I am not that fond of footballers in general or some footballers in particular.

Best wishes

So happy for the Albanians. They are doing their nation proud.

Germany vs Hungary next up. Can the Germans continue their excellent start or will the Hungarians upset the apple cart?

So a second game without the cherry red shirts, white shorts and green socks…. And what the hell are the Germans wearing? That’s a kit that says “we deserve to be thrashed”…….Come on Hungary!!

Well, the pink and purple people eaters are the first team to book their place in the next round. Hungary huffed and puffed but couldn't blow the German house down. 2-0 the final result.

Which means....

Scotland must beat Switzerland later tonight. More than that though, they need to develop a backbone and get some pride back.

Best wishes,
Steve

Indeed, but no more gallant failure please. Come on Scotland - a repeat of Euro 96 please - and beat the Swiss.

Win this and I’ll even forgive the stooopid kit.

Full time

Scotland 1-1 Switzerland

Not a disaster - and the performance was night and day better than the German game.

Importantly, Scotland go into the last game with a hope of qualification - they just need to beat Hungary.

Not sure how much hope there is. Scotland's goal difference looks set to bite them in the bum even if they win against Hungary.

They were certainly better tonight.
