Subs not losing supply when cruising

Post by OxfordGuy3 »

Haven't played the game for a little while, but have just noticed that subs don't seem to lose supply when cruising anymore, which seems very odd - is this intentional? If so, why? Thanks

It is intentional as otherwise they can take far too long to sail to good raiding locations, and given that they also lose supply when raiding, if they also lost it while cruising then they could hardly be on station in the Atlantic for long.

Okay, fair enough, though I found my U-boats effective enough anyway. BTW did the port at the southern end of the British Empire route get removed? If so, probably no bad thing, as with free cruising it would make it too easy for U-boats to interdict that before the allies could respond quickly.

I don't recall removing any ports, which one exactly are you referring to?

The one in the far South West of the map, below the USA, where the British Empire convoy route originates from - or at least it's not visible on my screen, neither at full screen 2560x1440 resolution or when windowed.

I sometimes used to play with a house rule where the Axis were not allowed to interdict this port, as it could take Allied forces too long to mount a response.

It's not being visible might have to do with resolution or a possible graphics mod, but the "British Empire" port is still there. If you're playing as the Axis, the port number is not visible which makes it harder to see.

If the interdiction is an issue then we could add a script to target Axis shipping doing this. I'll think about that, but the port is definitely not going to be removed as it plays a vital role in being the source of a convoy.

I don't see it at all when full screen at 2560x1440 in either zoom level.

In windowed mode at 1920x1080 I can only partially see it:

Why is that?

To be honest, I didn't really want it to be visible, so the fact you cannot see it in all zoom levels is closer to the desired outcome.

Why not just put land hexes around the port so that only a single hexside is available for ships to blockade it? That way the port can't be reduced by a couple of subs.

Hmm... having played a few games recently, this removal of *any* supply reduction for cruising subs seems over-tuned to me, I really think there should be *some* consequences for cruising subs. Is it possible to make subs lose 0.5 supply when cruising? That would I think be a more reasonable balance and a bit more realistic.
