Altitude Effect on Recon

I'm coming back to this game after a few years of pause. While I'm planning my recon missions I was wondering whether the altitude of the recon plane has any effect on the outcome of the mission? I know that if you set the altitude below 500 feet you fly under the radar, which has a lot of benefits. But how often was this tactic used in reality? I guess due to the potential risks, most recon missions were flown at much higher altitudes. So would it have any negative effects if I set my recon plane to fly at 20.000 feet (or even higher) rather than 400?

If the weather is clear below your altitude you get the full photo regardless of how high or low you are. So just watch the cloud layer and fly accordingly.

Thanks, so there is no hidden system like with the bomb groups, where a higher altitude leads to more inaccurate strikes. Good to know.

Low altitude recon missions did occur and were called "dicer" missions by the Allies (or at least the British).

In the game, if the recon mission goes in at low enough altitude, you will be able to count AAA guns and roughly the number of aircraft parked at enemy airfields, and I think battle damage assessment might become more accurate.

But I think what simovitch is saying is that the recon "counts" for up-to-date targeting purposes at any altitude as long as the skies are clear.
