Defending against Blackbeards motley crew

How does one defend against boarding attacks in DW2? None of the DW:U strategies seem to apply (even if they say they do in the game).

In Universe the galactopedia specifically say "Assault Pods also serve as defensive forces if a ship or base is boarded by an attacker." and "Note that assault pods can be shot down by Point Defence weapons while in transit to a target." Both of which is true.

In DW2 Point Defence weaponry targeting pods doesn't seem to be implemented which I guess is fine, (even if it would be a nice mechanic to keep and would be realistic) but the galactopedia specifically retains the statement about "Assault Pods also serve as defensive forces if a ship or base is boarded by the attacker". They don't seem to give any defence bonuses though. Is this a bug or just a faulty copy paste from the previous game?

(Except for more shields, and have fleets defending every single system and station)

After further reading in the Combat section of Game Concepts it also states that Pods provide defence.

All other forum threads seem to be talking about crew modules adding more defence? (I can't find any information supporting this in the game)

I think they used to add some defence but does not anymore... I actually added back some defence for assault pods in my own mod though, seems appropriate to me they add some defence as well as offensive strength.

Crew modules add more crew - and crew directly increases ship boarding defense with a 1:1 ratio before modifiers. Because of this, it is generally the most efficient way to increase boarding defense. Not counting mods.

Could also add that crew modules add defensive strength actually based on the racial infantry defensive strength, so different factions will have different defensive strength based on how good they are in combat.
