Supply woes on US West Coast continue

Post by Bella »

I’m at July 6, 1942 as Allied. Starting in January, the big US/Canadian Western ports (San Diego, LA, SanFran, Seattle and Vancouver) started running short on supplies. I posted this and was told it sorts out eventually on its own. However, it is still continuing and San Francisco is now running low on fuel, too, which is problematic for supply and transport convoy re-fueling.

I was made to understand that supply issues on the West coast are automatic and need no input from me. Is this correct? If so, when do supply issues begin to unsnarl?

Which scenario? Scen001 from the latest patch heavily reduced supply generation in CONUSA.

As is commented on the lower supply production, if you have to repair the industry and have set your base demands accordingly, do not demand too much at any base so it can migrate to all of the bases that need the supplies while the stockpiling of supplies is off.

I have been transporting supplies/fuel to Pearl Harbour, and then onwards in convoys, as I assumed that was the way it worked (as it did in reality). I keep large depots at Pearl, Noumea and Sydney (+500K at least of supply and fuel), and lesser but still sizeable (+100k at least) at Luganville, Brisbane, Port Moresby, Suva and soon Tassafronga (on Guadalcanal), as I move up the Solomon chain.

Should I set SanFran, San Diego and LA to stockpile?

I would not, but use San Francisco as the main export hub. Develop and use Prince Rupert for the Northern Pacific. Also, don't unload at Oahu just to reload it again, send it to your main supply hubs for the South Pacific, Kiwi Land, and Emu Land.

It is, however it has created a problem.

In vanilla stock GCs, all major bases on the West Coast have inflated supply requirments. This is to ensure supplies accumulate in those ports in reasonable quantities. This works well in the vanilla stock GCs, since the East Coast in CONUSA alone produces 65,000 supplies daily.

The new patch trimmed this supply generation to a mere 1000 daily

However, as I understand, the supply requirement in bases like SF, LA, San Diego etc. stayed the same. Now, those bases in you scenario compete for whatever meager supply surplus is left in CONUSA.

You have to repair disabled industry in CONUSA to boost supply generation but it will take time.

That represents the conversion of the civilian factories to produce war material. Even the canning factories had to change from paper labels on the cans of food to labels that were painted on the cans of food.

That is quite unfortunate, since it cannot be seen that USA was lacking of supply for Pacific. Some shortage of ships and especially tankers was present in early war.

Early in the war, there were supply shortages. But if someone is playing the new original Beta, that has more problems. The vast supply surplus in the beginning of the game did not really exist.

“You have to repair disabled industry in CONUSA to boost supply generation but it will take time.”

And how does one go about that, repairing disabled industry? I thought Allied industry was automatically run by the AI for him/her?

It takes 1000 in supplies to repair the industry and a base can only have one point repaired per turn. So you need to have at least 10 001 in supplies at the base with repairs set to "on" or they will not repair.

When clicked on a base there is a button in the extreme left bottom of the base display to see all industry in the hex. In the repair column it should be set to 'on' if not already. In this example New Orleans has 300 light industry damaged and 80 working and is set to repair.

You can also use the "Industry Management" tab on the top left or use the hotkey "J" to get there. If you play the Japanese side and want to expand any industry or factories, that is the best place to do so. You can manage all of your industry there.

In addition to what RJ said, if there are several damaged industries at the base and more than one is set to repair, each of them can repair and use 1000 points per repair. So if you had 10,001 supply and three industries repaired you would end up with 7001 supply left at the base (minus whatever is used to operate the base). After such a turn, the base would need to build the supply back up to exceed 10,000 before more industry is repaired.
