Chaos45(AX) vs TacticalStats(SOV)
Hello Everyone,
Started this match a couple weeks ago so figured it would be good to start showing some of the progress.
1st Game playing as the axis in WITE series period, played as Soviets alot in WITE but never took the challenge in a PVP match as Axis so see how it goes.
Will start off with Start of T2 situation for Germany....all pockets held, was some I was iffy if they would hold as I used HYLAs T1 guide to do a chunk of the opening but some soviet units have been added and Soviet units didnt rout to same location, and some retreated instead of routing so you have to do some improve to try and make sure it works. I will say this ended up with some quite jumbled chains of command and units....as to make sure the pockets in the south would hold i had to split up some of the later moving panzer/motorized regiments abit far from each other and even put a couple in different corps commands to make sure supplies would flow at least decently for T2.
I the North Happy with initial assault pockets held and I have a decent bridgehead to move on poskov and to allow my infantry pretty quick movement north.
In Center Germans are abit weaker since HYLAs opening sends alot more tanks/motorized south, but all in all was a good opening pockets held and Germans are poised to advance further for T2.
In South everything went as planned no pockets broken, and my opponent makes a rather large mistake due to being abit newer and not facing a good German southern opening before---he places a very forward defense as the rovno pocket opening....this will cost alot of soviets in the next couple turns.
I botched the initial german bombing all in all following another guide----end result was like 4k russian planes for 400+ german plane losses mostly the long ranged level bombers hitting further in soviet airfields past D1....bad decision but ehh the damage to the soviet air force was done and the level bombers arent needed after T1 anyway.
So heres the pics of Start of T2.

Re: Chaos45(AX) vs TacticalStats(SOV)
T2-
North- German mech units just pushed occupation zone so the infantry could approach quicky and approached the Pskvo line but didnt attack
Center- Pushed forward and took Mogilev clearing occupation for the infantry to move quickly up on T3.
South- Germany mopped up all the pockets and finished encircling the Russians to the South of the Rovno opening bashing a ton of Soviet infantry/mech units out of the way from the forward defense.
T3-
North- German forces moved on Pskov defeating the initial defensive line and encircling about a russian corps south of Pskov.
Center- Panzers Storm Vitebsk and clear some space for the hard marching infantry
South- Continue to decimate the forward soviet army- grab a good foothold on the East side of the Dnepr and the east side of Kiev, was super happy with this on T3. Also continue to encircle more Soviet units in the south as I drive on Odessa.

Re: Chaos45(AX) vs TacticalStats(SOV)
Turn 4:
North- Destroyed the pocket and took Pskov--mobile forces smash the soviet next line of defense- again mainly to allow the infantry to quickly advance as the Terrain will soon prove poor for armor, also rested 2 panzer divisions so i have a breakthrough force with fuel/Combat prep in the future here. Also push control to VL to prepare for the t5 infantry assault if he stays in place.
Center- Attempted to storm Smolensk---bad decision my 3 attacking divisions failed but losses werent massive, with the weaker initial panzer forces here pushing will rely more on the infantry armies which are now there.
South- Continue to exploit any weakness found and try to cause as much damage to the soviet forces here as I can as its great panzer terrain. Smash apart most the new soviet line around Kiev and zoc trap 3 russian division all of them showing good CV or the juicy motorized NKVD unit i want to take trucks from. Panzers push lots of hex flipping smashing aside rather weak soviet forces---think its the remains of mainly units that had already suffered defeats/routs in T2/3. The big news is a panzer corps takes odessa with a hasty attack defeating a lone division left to defend it, and a motorized division even takes the next major port in line on T4....so this is setting the south up for some solid early supply. Pockets are mostly taken care of aside from 1x 50 CV rough hex stack I left it for the axis allies and 1 german division to deal with on T5.
Decided to pull in a bunch of Italians early just to build up counter presence in the south as the space will open up alot as we advance and the mountain/cav units will come in handy for advance and then winter for the mountain units.
Playing a far from perfect game as I didnt realize the RAD units in Norway nor did I manage to grab all the JU52s right off so abit behind at this point in those areas. However, the advances are all going at a decent pace if not very quickly in the south.

Re: Chaos45(AX) vs TacticalStats(SOV)
Very nice. Hoping I can make some battles interesting. Don't like seeing all those Russians cut off.
Re: Chaos45(AX) vs TacticalStats(SOV)
T5:
AGN: continue to push on Tallinin and push russian forces NE of Pskvo trying to find a weak point, as well keeping 2 panzer divisions slowly following building up Fuel and CP.
AGC: Push into VL, start pushing with infantry to collapse the flanks of Smolensk for an encirclement if the russians stay. General infantry push all along the line.
AGS: Encircle the ZOC locked divisions and push NE to flank any units defending against AGC Infantry, as well panzer/motor push to take ground so the infantry can keep quick marching. Recon Crimea defenses.

Re: Chaos45(AX) vs TacticalStats(SOV)
T6:
AGN- 4th PG Takes Novgorod and deploys the 2 rested Panzer divisions to ensure the breakthrough/destruction of Soviet defenses along this rout of advance towards leningrad. 18th Army continues to press on Tallinin. German infantry launching attacks wherever they reach Soviet lines with MP remaining to keep casualties high and entrenchments from getting to high.
AGC- Panzers Rest while infantry push forward All along the line.
AGS- Soviet resistance basically ceases to exist---Move NW towards kursk, the city just SW of Kharkov and zaporozhye....as well as panzers break into crimea. Panzers continue to clear control so infantry can keep marching forward quickly.
This turn is where I messed up German supply thinking EXPORT Port lvl 4 would get more supplies to export instead it shut off all my port supply to the south and most of it to the north---so effectively for T6 I cut off alot of my own supply but still am doing pretty well despite the newb error.

Is this vanilla or No Early End?
Re: Chaos45(AX) vs TacticalStats(SOV)
No Early End
Re: Chaos45(AX) vs TacticalStats(SOV)
T7:
AGN: Clears another 2-3 hexes northward towards leningrad and 18th Army takes Tallinin and beings to shift fully to Leningrad. Also continued pressure on Soviet forces to the SE of the lake in front of Vladi hills
AGC: Infantry continues to push East while armor sits to gain supplies and CP
At the juncture of AGC/AGS a panzer corps shifts just slightly starting to build up supplies and CP for the Push on Kursk later.
AGS: Clear control to Kharkov in preparation for an assault....rest of the south clear control for infantry to keep marching, clear most of the crimea.
Supply is esp an issue this turn due to the mistake I made on T6 with the ports so for T6/T7 could really feel the supply crunch affecting MPs esp in the south.
Also in the south after I took the screenshots I decide to have a low on fuel Panzer division just do a check of Sevastapol and found it only defended it lightly defended and should be easy to storm on T8 with divisions at hand.

Re: Chaos45(AX) vs TacticalStats(SOV)
T7 Stats:
Would note---Tacticalstats has been active with Soviet airpower here and there--but so far ive done a decent job of keeping fighter groups covering my lead elements- you can see the depots established at some of the far ahead airbases where im stationing fighters. Using JU52s to shuttle in the initial supply batch to make sure they will intercept soviet bomber raids the same turn they move to the airbase.
Is a pain to manage each turn but its made the Soviets pay for almost every series of airstrikes done.

Re: Chaos45(AX) vs TacticalStats(SOV)
T8:
AGN- 18th Army begins to press in to the now empty space from the West, Soviet forces start to concentrate in front of 4th Panzer Group but supply is decent so 4th Panzer group smashes another hexes forward towards leningrad, with how quickly Novgorod fell and with several soviet divisions being routed or shattered every turn its been almost impossible for the soviets to build any fortifications more than about lvl 1. As well I put continued pressure on the Vladia hills attacking several hexes there every turn as well causing more losses/routs to take that key terrain which the Soviets are heavily contesting.
AGC- continued advance on Vyazma--against with infantry attacking every soviet hex they can to rout units and inflict losses.
AGS- Resting 1 corps of 3rd panzer army while the other parts of 3rd panzer army encircle Kharkov smashing aside about a soviet army that was defending its flanks. German infantry pushing towards Kursk to clear space for the panzers to assault it in a couple turns. Most of 1st panzer army rests and tries to find fuel which seems to be in short supply around the DZ area. In the Crimea Kerch is take from a division and Sevastopol is taken from a division, a naval brigade is left isolated to be mopped up next turn--think it spawned in to crimea unfortunately for them. So Crimea is now done will start moving the mobile elements close to supply as they are very low and the romanians will fortify Kerch and the other port within our house ruled 6 hex of front invasions.
Supply seems to be an issue across the front at this point, K62 informed me all the depots within range of supplying units need to be set to lvl 4, so on T12 started trying that but its in the future so will see if it improves supply or not...in General ive noticed once in awhile a couple armies will get full supply but most the time my armies are getting about 50-60% of the supply they have requested.

T10: Forgot end of turn pictures but is pics from start of T11 not much changed from Soviet moves
AGN: continued the assaults toward leningrad, the motorized that broke thru and took Kolpino on T9 held, defacto ending the ability of the soviets to resist south of leningrad at this this point, you will notice he pulled back on his turn to try and defend leningrad and the ports.
AGC: Steady push about it
AGS: Encircled Kursk on T10, infantry continued to push across the line.

Re: Chaos45(AX) vs TacticalStats(SOV)
T11:
AGN: Smashes across the Neva taking the port and most the other ports as well, soviet units in general just rout or shatter, this is the end for Leningrad effectively.
AGC: Panzers make a big push to the north capturing Rzhev and decimating basically an entire Soviet army or so....Infantry push across the line
AGS: Panzers move north from Kursk encirclement creating another small pocket and zoc locking another Soviet division that is most likely doomed---again soviet units just get decimated when faced with an combat. Part of the Kursk pocket is reduced by the infantry as they prepare to storm the corps holding the city--he flew in supply so they have a pretty high CV value still. Infantry advance across the line reaching Rostov as well.
I dont think Tactical has played a bad game up to this point aside from trying to save units in the south from encirclement T1 which turned into more losses---but in all reality not many more.....as most the soviet southern forces are doomed if the rail line isnt opened T1.....We will see how winter goes, but I have badly messed up supply here and there and am still doing way better than historical as Axis so far in this match---Soviet units CV basically doesnt matter for the most part. Is only a couple battles that I have been stopped in and in general even at 1:1 starting odds the German units typically win. Balance seems to be tad to much in favor of Germany just my 2cents from now up to T15. Who knows maybe winter be some sudden reversal that smashes half the German army but something tells me it wont.
As well you can see you dont have to worry about doing pockets to basically destroy the soviets just attack them. Also aside from German fighters the German air force up to this point has done basically nothing. So its amusing that the German army with no air support can totally trash the soviet army all along the line with no issues---again think things are abit over tuned for the Axis at this point.

Re: Chaos45(AX) vs TacticalStats(SOV)
T12
AGN: Begin to liquidate the leningrad pocket while other units keep pushing east.
AGC: Clear more space along most the line smashing more Soviet units that stayed close
AGS: Took Kursk/Orel and encircled the previously Zoc locked Soviet division...armor takes a break, lets the infantry keep flipping control all along the line. Storm Rostov scout Soviet positions in the south--in all honesty not much point in pushing further in 1941 as the rail situation isnt anywhere near sustainable......you will see as turns go forward even being supplied from rail head at the DZ area this area isnt hard for the Germans to maintain with alittle air supply.
The Soviets in general are to weak to do much of anything still on T12, was some counterattack opportunities I think in the center---hard choices for the soviet player though as once you attack those units are spent and his defenses are fairly weakened already.
More thoughts on the game---I think allowing the Germans the massive opening pockets 20/20 vision allows from replaying T1 over and over again along with soviets initial units being mostly junk has pushed the game way to far in favor of aggressive axis play. I know the Rovno opening has been talked to death--- but much better ratings on the soviet southern units and probably lower MPs on many of the German units in AGS are needed to make the early turns abit more balanced for the Soviet players. Historically the Germans were very delayed in the south due to stubborn soviet resistance you dont get any of that in WITE 2 or in WITE 1.....is a weakness of the system that has been around for a decade+ now.

Re: Chaos45(AX) vs TacticalStats(SOV)
Congrats on your on the territory you have captured so far, taking Leningrad so quickly should give you certain victory in 1942, you may even be able to take Moscow before the years out.chaos45 wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2024 6:15 am T11:
I notice up North you have a ArmeeKorps operating East of Lake Ilmen in the area of The Valdai Hills, back in the WITE 1 days it was considered a strategic MUST to control it though in WITE2 its considered not as important. you mentioned your not planning to push much further this year, considering you have Leningrad it seems reasonable but I still feel The Hills are important to control.
There are 3 important rail lines in that area, I still prefer holding the high ground there.
