Taranto Event - Ill Conceived Event

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Taranto Event - Ill Conceived Event

Post by DarkHorse2 »

The Taranto Swordfish Raid event is poorly implemented and ill conceived.

The only time it has any implact is the 1st time a player experiences it. After that, the Italians dodge it by not basing Naval in Taranto from Nov 11, 1940 until it fires.

In the game, it should not be limited to Taranto as it could have targeted any number of ports that the Italian navy was routinely based.

Yeah its pretty easily avoidable. It should probably be a random port so you don't know when or where it hits...

I do not really care for events that duplicate or immulate normal combat.

Isn't that what the core game is for?

Geopolitical events? Yeah, those need scripted events in order for those to manafest within the game.

Off map events? For example, the Battle of River Plate? OK, I can see a scripted event to handle that.

But on-map combat operations? Should not need scripted events. (the only exception may be when playing against the AI where the AI simply cannot handle a task as complex without some help.)

Actually, not a fan of the Norway / Denmark 1940 events either when playing as the Axis and feel those should be doable using the base game mechanics without requiring any special scripted event to accomplish.

If the Axis are lacking the tech, units or resources to accomplish this manually, then something is broken within the scenario.

Agree with you. A lot of events like Norway are to help the AI because they cannot really invade Norway like a human player could...
