[WAD]Heightfinders are really good!

Post by Blast33 »

In this cold war era test, I placed a Heightfinder radar in the middle and multiple F-4’s all around.
The Heightfinder provides altitude and speed and azimuth (3D) at all the four wind directions at once!
It is really good :o

It seems that a HF radar has an omnidirectional view. This is not possible because of the shape of the antenna, which gives a small beamwidth in azimuth.
For the PRV-16 it is only 2.5 degrees left and right. http://www.frr-8.de/prw.html
For the PRV-9 it is 3-5 degrees. https://www.globalsecurity.org/military ... y-cake.htm
The whole function of a Height finding radar is now not present. If you take one HF out, for example an Odd Pair of an SA-5 site, would hamper the effectiveness of that SA-5 unit a lot. Now it does not matter.

Maybe the solution of the Flap Lid radar can help. This radar can rotate 360 degrees but only look in a smaller sector to track targets.

Idea?
