Convoy Routing Tips
I've spent a lot of time over the last few days exploring how the convoy system works trying to get Commonwealth production resources routed. I will try and summarize my findings below in a series of bullet points that I hope will help not just new players, but experienced players as well. I apologize if this information exists elsewhere. If so, let me know and we can eliminate this post and roll any new points that I might have found into an existing post on this subject. And lastly, if any of these points are demonstrably wrong, please let me know so this post can be amended.
1. Commonwealth resources from India and Australia take priority when competing with other resources closer to Britain. That's why you will experience WTF moments when shuffling convoys around the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, and the sea zones around Australia. You will open the production screen and the numbers will be off from what you expect, and you examine things closer and you realize the Mount Isa resource is now being picked up and using up a gazillion convoy points. Don't try and fight this, the code is in control here.
2. [This section has been corrected] I experienced great difficulty routing them eastward across the Pacific thru the Americas and/or Panama Canal. However, Courtenay, and several others, have proven that this can be done. Refer to later posts in this thread as to some tips on how to do that.
3. [This section has been corrected] American and French convoy points can be used to transport British resources but there do seem to be some limitations which I have not entirely figured out. Sometimes they just won't work and I have not deduced what those situations are. Just be aware when doing so that it can be more difficult than using British CPs.
4. If you can, try and Make French Guyana the new home country when France falls. Trying to get BPs shipped to new home countries located in West Africa from Britain or the USA is not worth it. You will experience euphoria for a brief moment when the game recognizes the route and the BP gets through! You then realize later it effed up some esxisting convoy route for Britain. I honestly have no idea if you can get the BPs to French Guyana either but I just know getting them to West Africa is not worth trying.

Yeah, it is Good to know.
Unfortunately this doesnt help managing your convoys the way you want to. Only how to manage them the way the game wants to.

Re: Convoy Routing Tips
I have gotten convoys from Australia to the UK going eastward. At the time I did this, there were no westward routes from Australia, so I have not seen what happens when there are both eastward and westward routes, but if there are only eastward routes, they work.
And some of the CPs used were US ones.

I thought I knew how to play this game....

Courtenay enjoys trolling me. Courtenay, if you could demonstrate this, that would be great. Otherwise, you are using hearsay to disparage my post. You should remember that every new release usually breaks some existing feature that works. So it might have worked on some version you remember years ago..

Courtney speaks the truth.
Every game of MWIF, I send the two Australian resources to the two Canadian factories and send all the Canadian resources to UK factories.
I use French/Free French/CW convoys and USA when they are in the war.

Re: Convoy Routing Tips
In the above game, not all the Canadian resources are going to the UK as there was some u-boat action in the North Atlantic.
I will add that I find that the more trade agreements you have, the more MWIF gets it's convoys messed up.

I normally do get the game to do 90% of the routing I wish, but it takes a lot of patience and routing of individual resources, setting some to idle and then rerouting. However, you don't always get 100% satisfaction and have to redo all on every reload. EOT Phase Breakdown is the critical moment for everything to fall into place.

Re: Convoy Routing Tips
DavidC, the truth I'm seeking is whether the Commonwealth can ship resources eastward from Australia all the way to the United Kingdom. While a very clever work around, one that I shall use and I'm very glad you shared, is not what I was attempting to do. I pointed out, which has yet to be refuted, that one cannot send those Australian resources Eastward all the way to the UK. Shipping them to Canada, then shipping the Candadian resources to the UK, is not the same thing. And, as I pointed out in my post, American CPs can ship North American resources to the UK.davidc wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2024 12:10 am Courtney speaks the truth.

Therefore, whether Courtney speaks the truth has still yet to be determined.

Re: Convoy Routing Tips
Where there you go, I stand corrected. Courtenay is correct, and I'm wrong. I fiddled with it for a long time and came to the erroneous conclusion that it's not possible. I don't know how you did it Ronnie but it's a beautiful thing. I shall amend the original post to include these findings.
If other evidence arises that refutes other points in the post, then so be it. At least we will learn these clever people figured out what I could not.
