Instead of exploding, the fighters simply disappear

Post by Teranos »

Good day commanders! I haven't played for a while and now I'm back. And I noticed a strange bug - fighters, when maximum damage is inflicted on them, simply disappear, but before, I remember, they seemed to explode in small nice explosions.
Is it normal?

The second bug is related to damage effects on ships.

I’m also not sure if this is a bug or not, but when ships’ shields are completely knocked down, the effects of damage to armor and hull look identical to the effect of reflecting damage with a shield. Is this fine? I just remember again that after breaking through the shield, there should be the effects of small explosions of the hull plating, no?

Thanks for the report. Do you have saves, screenshots, and perhaps videos demonstrating the issues you could upload?

Maybe graphic settings changed?

Sure, I’ve got saves and I have done some mini videos, describing lack of fighters/bombers explosions. I also want to draw your attention to the absence of small explosions of damage to the plating of ships. Explosions are essentially only visualized when the ship is completely destroyed.

I am attaching my graphics settings to the post. From them you can see that I have particle effects turned on, as well as the minimum and maximum rate of the effect, everything is at maximum.

I tried to make the video open on the site, but for some reason it didn’t work

The save weighs much more than 10, I had to archive it, but even in this case it turned out to be more than 10 MB. Divided the archive into 3 parts

And i must say, I fought this battle more than 10 times, and not once during all the time did I see a single fighter/bomber explosion!

And I have never seen, during these battles, a single small explosion on ships when damage is caused to the armor and then to the hull of the ship! :?

Trying to figure out - is there something wrong with my settings or is this a way to optimize game performance?
if it is true, so why not make fighter explosions toggled on/off in the settings, so that those players with high-performance video cards can fully enjoy the epic battles that used to be a year or 2 ago before the optimization begins. I think that video card can certainly handle more.

Seems like the videos you uploaded are private, so we're unable to view them. Can you please reupload them? Perhaps set them to unlisted?

I Have discovered something interesting related to explosion effects.
It looks like there is a bug in the game related to the effects of explosions from hits and explosions of fighters/bombers. The cool effects of mini-explosions from projectiles when hitting ships, as well as the effects of explosions from fighters/bombers, disappear after a few seconds of battle and don't appear at all anymore. Moreover, a complete reboot of the game is necessary to see them again. And again, only for a few seconds.

Here are some links to youtube
For some reason I can’t place them in the window here

https://youtu.be/7LAtl0xlH-c
https://youtu.be/j8FpC_ProK4
https://youtu.be/bMnJsaicV5k
https://youtu.be/V9TgABhEiPA
https://youtu.be/hLCndCvbFZA

At first I decided that this might be due to the incorrect operation of my system.
what did I do
1. Cleanly reinstalled the drivers on the video card (Nvidia RTX3060)
2. Completely deleted the game and all files that remain after deletion. And reinstalled
3. Disabled all mods and deleted them.
4. Tried using Standard range rendering/high dynamic range rendering
5. Direct X 11/Vulcan 1.10.3/Vulcan 2.3.0
6. Tried different screen resolutions
7. Tried different Minimum/Maximum effect rates
8. I tried the smallest maps for 300 stars and for a small number of empires (3-5)
9. Tried legacy 1.2.0.5 and legacybeta 1.2.0.8
10. tried different values of system load target
Nothing helped.

I would like to know if this is normal for the current state of the game (optimized) or is it not normal?
If this is not normal, then is it possible to fix it in future patches?
And if this is normal, like this kind of optimization method, then i wonder - is there a solution for me, and for other players who are ready to sacrifice performance and still get beautiful fleet battles?

Because I really love epic spaceship battles in space and was one of those die-hard grunt fans who was very reluctant to switch from DW:U to DW2, but it did happen thanks to that presentation video where Erik at the end showed off these beautiful epic effects of mini-explosions during the collision of the Akdarian and Mortalen fleets.

Thanks for the additional info. We're investigating. Currently, we're all hands on deck working on the Shakturi expansion. We are planning to address graphical bugs and issues in a future update.

I love this game and appreciate the contribution of the entire development team to make the game even better! So take as much time as you need! I'm really looking forward to the "return of the Shakturi"!

The only request is please don't forget. The epicness and beauty of space battles in Distant worlds is its competitive advantage compared to other 4x strategies. I want this feature to continue to attract new players to the game, just like me once)) And bright, beautiful explosion effects also serve this purpose. I really want them to stay in the game. Thank you!

It's in our bug tracking system, so we should get around to it eventually.
