Starting New GC...Question

Post by actrade »

So I took the time to re-enter all of Kull's spreadsheet that I did several years ago just to refamiliarize myself with the game setup. I've been told that once I start the campaign, it will pull an AI script to follow and that if I want to sometime in the future start a fresh campaign with a different AI script, I need to save my save game BEFORE I run my first turn. My question is, is that still accurate? Second question, assuming I want to start a fresh game later, can someone point me to directions on how to change out AI scripts? I really, really don't want to mess this up before I start lol. I am also soliciting any other pre-first turn advice anyone might have. Thanks in advance!

I could be wrong but I believe the only way to experience every AI script and avoid the random selection process at the start of a campaign game would be to delete, re-name (or move elsewhere ) every one of the numbered AI files in the Scenario folder for the AI side but one. That remaining file will be the one the AI uses by default. Then repeat that with the next game you start and play them individually in succession.

Would be a long experiment. I think there are 17 different AI files. There is going to be a great deal of overlap in how they all play out too.

Where are these AI files found? What are they labeled?

These are the aei001-xx.dat files in the Scen folder. However, I'm relying on memory as to how all this works so I'd keep the any aei files backed up somewheres in case my game theory goes awry. :|

I do believe that there were new AI files made but I don't know where that thread is. It does describe where they are and what to do with them.

Here by Kull:

Here by me:

CAVEAT: updated versions of scen001 did away with scenario variants and there is only aei001.dat which uses the latest AI.

I remember years ago there was a thread where we were told which aei files to move out to keep the Japanese AI from picking the strategy where scripts directed it to make semi-suicidal surface raids on Pearl Harbor in 1942. Don't know if that strategy was ever amended in a patch.

They are in the SCEN folder. They are aeiXXX.dat files.
As you can see below, my SCEN folder has no AI variants for scen001, but has tons of variants for scen006.
