Shutter sound in combat animations

Post by Yaab »

So I am restarting the GC and Japanese AI bombs Hong Kong. Having paid more attention to recon lately, I was baffled to hear 2-3 shutter sounds many times when Sonias or Idas were bombing. I have six LCUs in HK and bombers can up DL on them by 1 provided a pilot passes the check. I linked the shutter sound to Sonias/Idas and their cameras exlusively.

A couple of bombing raids later, and the shutter sound was produced by Lilys bombing Tenasserim Batallion in Mergui. Thus the shutter sound means a bomber pilots passed its DL check. When Sonias/Idas make the sound you can expect DL on your units to be raised by DL 1-4 points (1 from ground attack, 0-3 from camera). It is a nice indirect feedback to a player that DL on his unit was upped.

What surpsried me more, is I also heard the shutter sound when Sonias attacked my RN DDs off HK. In theory, their attack could up the DL on the TF by max 4 points.

I wonder if Sonias/Idas also up DL this way when they attack submarines/ships without combat animations (the "ship reported hit" messages). Sonias/Idas are better aircaft than I previously thought.

BTW, I haven't heard a single shutter sound duirng night bombing missions, no matter what bomber type, so Japanese AI somewhat shoots itself in the foot flying Sonias/Idas on night missions.

(stock) Sonias carry camera as a part of the normal loadout no mater what they attack so most likely yes, they should be clicking away.
They would be even more useful if they were, like IRL a Dive bomber. (many mods make them so).

Sonia and Idas would be better represented as Attack bombers but then their losses would be too high.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing! :o
